My name is Wells Cunningham. I received a master's degree in cello performance from the Eastman School of Music and a bachelor's degree in cello performance from the University of Miami where I won the UM Concerto Competition before being invited to tour Europe as principal cellist and soloist with the nationally assembled NCSA Orchestra.
I have taught students of all ages and levels for over 20 years. My students have been accepted into Eastman, Julliard, Oberlin, Interlochen and many other top conservatories, and have won numerous local and national competitions, including my student Thomas Mesa, who won the top $50,000 prize at the Sphinx national string competition. During the day I am a teacher trainer with MDCPS where I host workshops on string teaching techniques and train teachers on orchestra and string teaching techniques in their classrooms.
My playing has been featured on numerous recordings and movie soundtracks including songs by Mark Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Nelly Furtado, Taylor Dayne and many others, and my video entitled "The Impossible Duet" has been viewed over 2 million times and can be found on YouTube.
