About Ashley

I am an April 2015 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where I studied communications. I graduated with high honors, finishing with a 3.63 GPA. I served as a freshman seminar student instructor, a Trio tutor/mentor, President of the African American Student Union, President of the Community Hands and Mentoring Program (CHAMP), student representative for the English Composition Search Committee, student board member on the Diversity Committee to the President, and many other extracurricular activities and organizations on campus.

During my time at Pitt I was able to volunteer in the university's writing center as a proofreader and English tutor, specializing in scholarly-sourced research papers, literature reviews, and APA formatting. Even now, after graduating, underclassmen that I tutored still turn to me for help with papers in various subjects. I also have two graduate students who I am currently working with via email to assist with research papers and comprehension.

I would love to help students with constructing strong research papers and utilizing scholarly sources via reliable databases to assist in writing the best papers that they can possibly write. Contact me if you'd like to set up an appointment or receive a consultation.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

As an exceptional student academically, an active member in many on-campus organizations, and a proud graduate of the communications department, I've had endless opportunities to speak publicly. Whether hosting on-campus forums and heading club discussions, presenting assignments and projects to my professors and peers, or giving an acceptance speech for one of the many awards that I received during my time at the University of Pittsburgh, public speaking has been a strong skill of mine for many years. Public speaking plays a significant role in broadcast communications, which is why I feel that I well-prepared to assist students in preparing speeches as well as delivering those speeches to the public. Last year, I actually assisted an older-graduate student with an online public speaking course in which she had to record herself speaking to a group of people and then post that video to her university's discussion board. Seeing her growth from the first video to the final speech presentation was very rewarding and I like to think that my help assisted in her improvements in confidently speaking her words.
