Florida State University (Actuarial Science)
Hi, I'm Evan! I studied actuarial science and got my bachelor's degree at FSU, and in the pursuit of a second degree I started tutoring professionally in March. I've been helping fellow students through shared classes since Algebra 2 in high school, worked hourly with students at Eastern Florida State College, and I currently tutor all levels of math and teach kids' coding.
To say a bit about me personally, I teach the importance of reading by way of example, and I take care of an old rescue boxer. Growing up with two siblings with Asperger's, I get along great with students with related behavior disorders like ADHD.
I've worked with students in schools private, public, and Florida-Virtual, studying for the FSAs, the ACTs, the SATs, and all kinds of RBTs (really big tests). I have passed the society of actuaries exams P/1 and FM/2, and would be happy to work with students studying for those exams.
Feel free to reach me by email. Tell me all about you or your student's education goals, and we can plan how to meet them. Hi, I'm Evan! Evan was able to figure out what kind of learner my son was, and then use his surroundings to give real world examples of how geometry is used. He focused on the importance and practical uses of it instead of just teaching to the test. Because of this, my son no longer feels hopeless in math and is ready to learn! Evan is patient and took his time making sure my son understood by asking questions and rephrasing when necessary. I am truly grateful for his service.
Evan helped me with my AP Chemistry (+ Lab) course that I take at my high school. Before I made the wise decision to get Evan as a tutor, I was struggling to keep up and felt like the topics talked about during class were gibberish. I was on the verge of dropping the class thinking that the class was meant just for IB students. One night my parent told me I can get a tutor if I think I needed one. So I went on to Wyzant and started searching for one, out of all of the ones listed Evan stuck out the most for his great profile description, reviews, price and the fact that he was not far. Once I met Evan I noticed he was confident, polite and straightforward wanting to get work done. One of the things I like about working with him is that instead of reading out of book and emphasizing on concepts written down, he teaches through examples and problems. An example of a session could be talking a little about the section or chapter and then putting them to practice which really helps. He is a patient man and will take as much time as needed to get a concept through. If I didn't hire Evan I would have never been able to stay in that class. Thankfully he made the class less stressful. I highly recommend Evan as a tutor for any level of education in Chemistry. It was nice working with him.
He was able to meet me on a short notice, came prepared with materials to help me grasp Chemistry efficiently, overall he was great at helping me step by step learn Chemistry and understand the logic behind the equations.
Was very helpful at explaining "why" things are the way they are. Breaks things down in a very easy step by step way. I am so relieved to have his help! My chemistry class has gone from a nightmare to dare I say a joy.
My son says that Evan's tutoring makes Algebra 2 seem easier; and that his explanations of the algebraic formulas make them more understandable to him.
Broke everything down in lamans terms for me to understand fully. Evan explained everything thoroughly and i was surprised i picked it up so quickly! Very patient and understood what areas i needed to work on! Definitely making another appointment to see him for further help as my course progresses!!
Without Evan my son would not have passed Chemistry. He struggled to understand the concepts with the instructor. Evan basically taught him the whole semester and he aced the Final and the class. Would Highly recommend Evan for any Math or Science courses.
Evan was very patient and knowledgeable. He was prompt and very professional. He also came prepared with his white board. He was able to communicate effectively with my 16 year old son/student. My son understood his work much better. Thanks Evan. See you soon.
Evan is a "Five Star" Tutor. Smart, responds quickly to emails, and enjoyed a good rapport with our teenage son. My son said that the lesson was crisp and useful. We are pleased to recommend him as a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My bachelor's degree from FSU is in actuarial science. In the first few years of this career field, there are a few preliminary examinations, of which I've passed the first two with an 8/10. One of my most used study methods was to explain the material to other students, or a rubber duck when people were unavailable. For those students studying for their first preliminary exams, I can be a valuable resource, especially considering I still have all the textbooks.
In 2014 I applied my bachelor's and math background to work in a tutoring center, at which I've taught to the algebra 2 curriculum heavily, especially that content shared with the SAT. Prior and currently I tutor this subject privately as well.
Associate's Degree in Chemical Technology, 1 year chemistry tutoring experience.
