About Sophie

I graduated from Rollins College with a Bachelor of Arts in English (with honors) and a Creative Writing and Music minor.
At Rollins, I worked as a Writing Consultant helping students with their essays. I worked with college students of all ages on papers as small as 2 page reading responses, up to 100 page theses. I received special training in resume, cover letter, CV, and personal statement writing.
After college I became a freelance Writing Consultant, working with students on a variety of projects ranging from beta reading book-length works of fiction to fine-tuning and polishing college applications. I can assist you with poetry, short stories, novellas, and novels, focusing on pacing, characterization, dialogue and more. But I’m also adept at grammar and punctuation, which helps clients revise their articles, essays, thesis projects, and blurbs. I can help with anything: from drafts to completed works.

I am also a French tutor. I'm a native French speaker. Both my parents being from France, they raised me solely in French. I was homeschooled on the French curriculum and I obtained my French Baccalaureate diploma in 2011. I began tutoring students in French in college and have become a freelance French instructor after graduation. I work with students of all ages. Currently, I have students as young as 5, and as old as 46.
I adapt my curriculum for each student, whether they seek conversation intensive sessions, grammar refreshers for the workplace, or simply just want to learn enough French to go to Paris.

After graduating from college I started tutoring elementary, middle school and high school students with Common Core. My specialty is Reading Comprehension, Writing, Analysis, AP English, Phonics, Spelling and Grammar for all levels of academia. My youngest students are 5, while my oldest are in college. I have helped students from being able to read simple texts, to analyzing Hamlet, to managing their study habits, particularly homeschoolers (as I was homeschooled through FLVS during my high school years).
I help ESOL students further their progress in the English language, by working on their oral and written skills.
I have worked with students with disabilities in the past, and I adapt my strategy for every need. I currently work at UCP, where I teach students with severe disabilities, ranging from autism to cognitive and physical disabilities.

When I’m not helping with English related subjects, I can tutor in Basic Math up until 7th grade, Social Studies, Science, and History/Geography.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Piano

I have been studying piano since the age of seven (15 years). I have a minor in Music from Rollins College, where I focused on piano and composition. I now tutor piano and music theory to students of all ages.

Study Skills

I am qualified to teach this subject because I used to be a homeschooler for two different school curriculums. It was a lot of hard work and required extensive scheduling and planning to be able to do efficient work on time. I have also helped multiple students as a tutor and private instructor, manage their time for learning a chord, or preparing for an exam. I graduated from Rollins College with a Bachelor of Arts in English (with honors) and a Creative Writing and Music minor.
