My love for learning is why I decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Elementary Education with a reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement. I am a former K-6 teacher that taught science, intensive reading, language arts, and math. I have provided one-on-one tutoring and small group tutoring as a paraprofessional tutor. Also, I worked as a Multi-tiered System of Support Specialist where I oversaw the reading intervention program. I have a thorough understanding on how to implement intervention strategies that support a student's area of need.
I specialize in tutoring elementary reading covering phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills building. Additionally, I can provided elementary level tutoring in mathematics.
I hold myself to high standards and accountability. A big part of learning is parental involvement; therefore, I will ask for feedback from both the student and parent.
I am very flexible with my time and willing to work around your schedule, as well as, providing the appropriate meeting location that is convenient for the student. While I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I will gladly makeup missed sessions. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
