As someone who has been fortunate to have experienced many things in numerous places around the world, I believe it is extremely important to help our young people develop their own sense of wanting to learn and to come to understand what is necessary to be successful in today's global environment.
The ability to think creatively and to express one's thoughts clearly and concisely covers a curriculum in itself, which can be best taught and practiced in one-on-one tutoring. The give and take in such sessions will serve to build confidence and motivate the student to reach beyond his or her comfort (or discomfort) zone in a particular subject.
I'm a semi-retired business consultant who graduated from Northwestern University and grew up in the aluminum industry, working for Alcoa and running my own Boston-based company involved in marketing, sales, and business development worldwide. I've lived and worked outside the U.S. on numerous occasions and have acquired a relevant perspective on how competitive the global workforce has become.
My wife and I recently moved to Longboat Key from Bahrain, following a one-year consulting engagement in the Middle East.
These days, I'm a wannabe screenplay writer and am currently working on two creative projects...a romantic comedy and an international espionage piece.
My approach to tutoring comes out of extensive business experience in team-building, much of it in multi-cultural situations.
It's important to establish rapport with the student in order to stretch his or her boundary of knowledge in a particular subject. Once that's achieved, my role is to provide direction and keep the student engaged throughout the process.
The tutor's communication skills should enable the student to realize the progress he or she is making. Good tutors consistently encourage their students to take initiatives that build self-confidence and keep the ball rolling toward the goal.
It is my responsibility to make each tutoring session worthwhile. I will commit to make sure the experience is positive and that it achieves tangible results... better scores, more awareness, more confidence.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
