About Alfredo

I have a Bachelor's of Science degree with a major in Game and Simulation Programming with honors at Rasmussen College. My first peer-tutoring experience was that of a student who asked me to help her understand some algebra exercises she was having troubles with. Although I was using my spare time between classes to do some coursework, I felt helping her was the right thing to do. The novice tutoring session developed nicely to my conformity and her seemingly infinite gratitude, and she witnessed how frustrations banished in the light of hope.

Truly, there is a motivation for me to tutor beyond monetizing: to help those individuals who for one reason or the other, need to get better at programming related subjects; it is a humanistic, and social oriented resolution. What I expect with my tutoring lessons is to spur the tutee to learn more and increase his/her confidence as a learner. What I expect from tutees is that they have the will to learn.

In all, we will be working thoroughly on every subject leaving no gaps of knowledge, learning important concepts, completing examples that illustrate key points, and doing lots of exercises.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is one of those subjects that are necessary to build up a solid foundation in mathematics, so useful for a variety of jobs in the technology field. With a strong basis in mathematics is easier to make one’s way toward the goals ahead if they include technology or science. Learning mathematics takes discipline, patience, and right guidance to help students understand concepts and how to apply them. Yet, what it has been learned stays with you forever.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 brings the student closer to the superior learning that will be acquired once in college. More specifically, it will wrap up Algebra 1 knowledge and add to it introductory units in arithmetic (complex numbers, sequences and series), trigonometry, more on polynomials, linear and quadratic equations, introduction to matrices, problem solving, etc.
As a junior in college majoring in Game and Simulation Programming, I love tutoring sessions that develop in a fun, entertaining way, aimed at creating a solid foundation in mathematics.

C

Preceding C++, C is a very similar language, mainly differing from the former by the use of specific features. These, at some point defined C++ as a "better C," but its use is basically a matter of choice, and the idea of new vs old. Still in use by many programmers coming from the old school, C-style programs will remain in use as future-proof of a language that only differs from its offspring by the estimate of its sophistication levels.

C#

I use C# mainly for its scripting capabilities as it is the 'glue' in Unity3D Game Engine, which uses .Net; and also for its Winforms library.
For this reason I created a project a month ago, that uses C#, Winforms, and SQL Server. This combination of technologies is very commercial, as some surveys estimate C#.Net technologies represent 40+% of all opening jobs in the software development market.
Thanks

C++

I took C++ during College, becoming my main computer language. Lightning fast, though more demanding in terms of structure and syntax, C++ use is reserved, almost exclusively, for a niche that aims at high performance software. Games, simulations, robotics, (partially) scientific applications, and performance-sensitive embedded systems, are dominated by the use of this language. Power at the cost of more effort, that could be C++ motto.

Common Core

I have more than 1 year of experience tutoring Common Core, which is a new learning standard for students to develop skills that allow them to apply mathematics in their future lives. It has everything we would expect of Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry courses, but favors applications over theory.

Computer Gaming

Gaming is my passion, my profession, and the reason why I majored in game development, earning my B.S. in Game Programming, with honors. I took C++ as my main programming language, and C# for Unity3D Game Engine. Due to the nature of games as multidisciplinary, I also learned graphics programming, network programming, game design, and game assets creation. When it comes to games, organization is fundamental. There are techniques to funnel our efforts through a set of steps to creates a pipeline to the end product, and I hope we could work on them together.

Computer Programming

I have a B.S. in Game Programming where I took a variety of computer programming language courses, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I have been coding in C++, C# and Python for more than 5 years, focusing mostly on Object Oriented Programming, and game programming.

Computer Science

I took Computer Science at college for 4 years in the form of IT, computer programming, graphics programming, and software engineering courses.
I have tutored computer science for 4+ years, to tuttees ranging from middle school to college students.
Computer science is an umbrella definition for what it is the study of computers and computing related disciplines. It includes everything from computer programming to IT, from software engineering to networking. This science is best known for the development of problem solving skills, and the use of engineering resources and tools to tackle science and technology problems.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have plenty of experience in tutoring kids in math, and even Computer Programming, using Python. I have tutored children of ages ranging from 9 to 11 for a period of 1 year+. Having taught PreAlgebra, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry at high school and college levels, elementary level tutoring is probably the one area that requires more work organization, and dedication.

Geometry

Join me in an awesome journey to Euclidean's study of geometric places. Ancient Greek wise men created Geometry as the systematic study of the properties of sets of points, lines, angles, surfaces and volumes, as well as their constructions and applications.

JavaScript

Because I am Computer Programmer (BS) with a focus on C++, learning the Javascript scripting language was fairly smooth.
For 3 years now, I have tutored kids, and college students alike in web development. I have also made websites, using Javascript and Javascript based modern libraries, like Bootstrap and AngularJS.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra represents the introduction to mathematics as the science of quantity, logic, formulas, procedures, and problem solving, with the intent to smooth out future transitions to the different learning levels.

Python

During my academic career I have adopted Python as my "academic" language; useful for things like reading files, performing data analysis, drawing, and scientific programming. I have a major in Game and Simulation Programming.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker with more than 20 years speaking nothing but Cervantes' language. That is how Spanish is also known, to some extent to honor the famous writer for his contribution in spreading the Spanish language with his book, "El Ingenioso Hidalgo, Don Quijote de La Mancha," a work with great acceptance around the world.

Study Skills

For years, throughout High School, then in College, I have developed a set of learning skills that I use on every opportunity. For example, as a bilingual in English and Spanish, I have found that organization and categorization of the different components that makes the English language helped me on my road to learn the language. As a summary I have practiced self-organization, practical problem solving, and determination, and put them to test on every tutoring session.

Always willing to help students who struggle with programming languages

He does a excellent job explaining how to implement programming functions that are rarely used that can help anyone build additional confidence in their programming field. He also helped me a lot with the most difficult C++ programming assignment on inheritance that included a substantial amount of header files, cpp files, and a driver file, and was able to properly compile them for me.
