About Tatianna

Dear parents and potential students,

I'm honored that you've made it this far into my profile and hope you will continue reading to learn a little more about me and my credentials. I have an Associates of Arts, a B.S. in Journalism and a Master of Arts in Business Communications and hope to be able to use my scholastic achievements to inspire younger generations. I currently work as a marketing communications specialist and outreach coordinator in the medical field throughout the tri-county area. And although I have tutored several students in the past (ages ranging from 5 to 18) , I have never been a member of a formal tutoring network and wish to expand my community reach for more consistent work.

Since every student is different, I try to tailor my teaching approach in accordance to individual interest and learning style. For example, a young student I had a few years ago was struggling with spelling. Staring at a book for hours on end was just not cutting it so I decided to create an interactive flash card/puzzle game that improved his average test scores from 65% to 80% in less than two months. He responded better to tactile exercises than simply visual and audio repetition and the fact that we made it a game had him excited to show me his progress.

I was born on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and learned both English and Spanish simultaneously--having no accent in either. I took formal lessons through 12th grade and was able to take an oral exam in-lieu of completing college Spanish to receive full credit. Later on in my adult life, I temporarily acted as a Spanish interpreter for the Lake County Housing Authority and enjoyed my work immensely. I feel that being raised in a large multi-generational Hispanic family has afforded me a unique perspective and approach to communicating as a whole and have much to offer students in the way of conversational language skills.

I majored in Journalism at the University of Florida and graduated having taken advanced courses in both English and composition. As an upperclassman, I interned at a Gainesville publication for over a year and a half and was published monthly. I've continued freelance writing for advertising agencies and have completed online content work for business clients throughout the past decade. I am able to help students to compose anything from a simple paragraph style answer to a 35-page thesis project!

In my spare time I help advertise for a local entertainment company and attend karaoke contests (as a spectator, not participant). I also play the violin, love to look through thrift shops for artistic inspiration and cruise with friends through the country back roads on our motorcycle. I'm definitely not your "typical" professional and feel that with my journalistic and public relations background I can communicate and connect with students from all walks of life. Because of my career, I'm available to tutor in person most evenings after 5:30 and during the day on weekends.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have! I'm looking forward to helping you achieve your scholastic and personal goals!

Sincerely,
Tatianna

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
