University of Massachusetts/Boston (Community Planning)
I have extensive experience with writing through my degree program, my work, and my life experience. Those skills will be valuable to students writing papers or preparing research projects. I am also a quick study and if tutoring a youngster will be able to enthusiastically oversee the appropriate lesson plans. Although, my degree is in Community Planning, that course of study focuses on communication and research. Earlier in my academic life, I majored in English. I do have some experience substitute teaching. Also, several years ago, I tutored college composition for a foreign college student in Connecticut
I enjoy writing and encouraging others to write. Through various experiences I understand that the writing is not the only obstacle. Many students do not understand how to carry out the directions for an assigned project. While I can just correct grammar, that isn't my preferred work. If I am tutoring in respect to a specific assignment I walk the student through step by step to assure the correct methodologies and read the papers with critical emphasis on their understanding of the material they are presenting.
My writing experience covers the gamut from poetry and fiction, speech writing and political analysis, to school composition, research and analysis, and more. If I don't have the necessary expertise for a particular student, I will let you know immediately. I love to teach and look forward to the opportunity to increase the skills of my students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
