Bachedulor of Science, Florida Atlantic University (Biology)
I have been a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader/Tutor at FAU for 2 years now and I graduated from FAU this past summer with my degree in Biology with a Pre-Med focus. I have had many students tell me what they enjoy most about me is that I am very approachable and charismatic. They say I convey the concepts in a way where it feels so much easier than it does in class or from what they hear online. I would also say I make Organic Chemistry more fun. I enjoy this subject because it was one of the first classes I took that challenged my critical thinking so I enjoy breaking it down and make it simple to digest and providing students the simpler ideas I used to understand the material.
The way I like to tutor Orgo is to go through the concept with the students with a couple examples on the board and things to think of. Then I create examples for the student to try themselves and work with them with and have them make connections with the patterns that show up. I also like to draw on white boards with my assortments of colored markers lol. So if you have a whiteboard or colored pens that would be great. I also like to have fun, so I tend to bring a lot of humor and analogies to my explanations.
I Received an A in both Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 and I've been a tutor for both courses for a total of 6 semesters for 4 different professors at FAU.
As I still tutor at FAU, I am not allowed to tutor FAU students outside for pay unfortunately. (if you were an FAU student then you could just come to my sessions at school anyways).
I'm the most available on Wednesdays, Friday evenings, and weekends and you can message me about scheduling
I look forward to working with you. Dervins was fantastic! He is knowledgeable and encouraging. My son was very pleased with Dervins' teaching method and he "got it" much easier than from his college professor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received an A in Organic Chemistry 1 and 2. I also have been an Organic Chemistry Supplemental Instruction Leader and Tutor for the last 6 semester. Also I have sat in the class each time I supported the class and have heard it from 4 different profesors at FAU.
