Florida Atlantic University (currently enrolled) (History)
After graduating from Palm Beach State College with my Associate's Degree in 2014, I began working at the college as a tutor in their reading lab. In my 20 months of employment at the college, I worked with a wide variety of students, all having different learning styles and different strengths and weaknesses with their reading/writing skills. I came to develop a very strong love for working with students on a one on one basis and attempting to adapt my tutoring style to what each individual student needs.
I have had a very strong interest in and natural calling for history virtually all my life. Words cannot express how much I value past events and the ways in which they continue to impact and shape our present times. Studying at Florida Atlantic University over the past year, progressing further along with my History B.A., I believe I have gained even more of an understanding than before of how history is understood, transmitted, and analyzed.
There are few if any areas of history that I consider myself incapable of tutoring, but I have been told by fellow peers that I have a knack for world history at large and American history, and I am particularly interested in pursuing Asian history with the hopes to someday teach it.
I teach and assist people with historical studies very much in the same manner that I do so with my English tutoring. It does not matter to me how basic or how complicated the material being studied is, I am committed to breaking things down one step at a time and as slow as may be necessary to assist in the learning process. I specifically stress that memorization of names, dates, and places is of prime importance when studying history, but I have no doubts that if a student is having trouble in one of those areas I would be able to adapt my tutoring style to their needs. Though I have never tutored history "professionally," so to speak, I firmly believe that I am capable of doing so and am highly eager to gain more experience in this area.
If you would like to schedule a tutoring appointment, or simply have further questions about my background and other services I may be able to provide, please do not hesitate to contact me. I greatly look forward to working with some of you all in the future. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an in depth knowledge of American History, and even though I have never taught or tutored it before, I am extremely confident that I could do so effectively. I passed my AP U.S. History exam with a 5 back in high school, and have received As in all American History courses I've taken since then in college. As an American History tutor, I would be committed to helping you understand the role and functions of the American government and how they they have shaped American history over time.
I have been a reading/writing tutor at Palm Beach State College and have tutored students in English on numerous occasions. I can help out with grammar, pronunciation, and spelling, if you're looking for some more basic assistance. I can also assist in more advanced areas relating to essay writing, analysis of something you're reading, and the development of a strong vocabulary.
As a former reading/writing tutor at Palm Beach State College, I have tutored students on Literature many times. As a literature tutor I try to get students to understand how the events in literature they may be reading can relate to their own lives, to make analysis easier. I am also able to help students find the things that stick out most in a piece of literature in order to better understand its themes and make more sense of it.
I am currently working on my Bachelor's degree in History and have tutored students in the subject previously. I have a thorough knowledge of World History, particularly Ancient history, Asian history, American history, and post - World War II history. I am strongly committed to helping students struggling in these areas with the development of efficient study plans and better historical analysis for writing essays.
I have tutored in reading/writing previously at Palm Beach State College and as a result have vast experience with assisting students in writing. If you are struggling with writing an essay, I can assist you with the mechanical side (grammar, spelling, word choice) as well as the more organizational side (developing theses, paragraph structure, conclusions, etc). I most want to help students word their ideas in an essay in ways that make sense both to them and to the reader, and am very effective at helping them find that balance.
