About Brenda

I would love to be your mathematics tutor. Why? Math is all around us. Have you ever heard of the Golden Ratio? If not, when you have some free time, look it up. It’s fascinating.

Math is a cumulative subject matter therefore you are not afforded the opportunity to catch. I know that math is intimidating but it need not be. Once you have a firm grip on mathematics, it might become your favorite subject, too.

This is where I come in. As your tutor, I will help you by turning the unknown into something understood. You will be much happier walking into your math class once you obtain the knowledge that you need and crave. Getting help from a tutor tells me that you are the kind of person that not only cares about their grades but the knowledge they will acquire as well.

This paragraph will enlighten you as to my qualifications. I am a certified teacher in mathematics grade 6-12. My license is active however, I no longer teach. I have taught and tutored everything in and between Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus for over ten years. As a side note, I have a BBA in Accounting from FAU. Yes, I am a CPA and have taught AICE Accounting.

If you haven’t gathered by know, I am extremely passionate about mathematics. I am available Monday through Friday, from 3:00 to 7:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 3:00. Additional times are available on a case by case basis.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Have taught high school mathematics for eight years. Am a state certified teacher in mathematics grades 9-12 until June 30, 2020.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra II, both regular and honors for over ten years. The past eight years were spent teaching at a 3,000 student high school in Palm Beach County, Florida. I have a bachelor's degree and am a state certified teacher in mathematics, grades 9-12. My certificate expires June 30, 2020. In addition to teaching, I worked as a tutor at the high school's math lab.

Business

As a Certified Public Accountant, I am familiar with many aspects if the business world. I have a Bachelor of Business Education and have been a CPA for over 30 years. Last year, I taught AICE Accounting at a local high school.

Elementary Math

I have taught high school mathematics for over eight years. I am state certified to teach mathematics for grades 9 through 12. In addition, I have tutored all grades of mathematics on a volunteer basis. I have worked at both high school and college mathematics labs. From the same state college, I earned the "Academic Excellence in Mathematics" award for the years 2006 to 2007. I enjoy tutoring young students in order to build a solid mathematics foundation that will carry them through their mathematics education. The only students that claim that they hate math really fear math through s lack of understanding. That understanding begins in elementary school.

Financial Accounting

I work as a CPA every tax season preparing Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1020S, 709. In addition, as required by maintaining my CPA certificate, I take 80 hours of continuous professional education every two years including at least 20 hours of Federal taxation updates.
I also taught AICE Accounting at a local high school.

Flute

I have been playing the flute since I was twelve years old. I played in my junior and senior high school bands and symphonies. I was a member of the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches. I play the flute every Sunday at Mass and am compensated for special events such as the Christmas Pageant and Midnight Mass. In addition, I am frequently hired to play at special events such as weddings.

General Music

I have played the piano since I was eight years old and the flute since I was twelve. I play the flute professionally. I play every Sunday at Mass and am hired to play special occasions such as weddings, Midnight Mass, pageants, etc. I was also a member of the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches. My flute profession began in junior high school and continued into high school and college. I have privately tutored students in the study of music including reading treble and bass clefs. In addition, I have tutored students in elementary piano lessons and advanced lessons on the flute and piccolo. I was also an "Artist in Residents" at the Bak Middle School of the Arts for three years. At Bak, I taught piano, music composition including reading and writing in all major clefs. Music vocabulary such as allegro, ritard, coda, fine, and the symbols associated with the appropriate vocabulary were also taught. I emphasized time signatures and musical notations. I tutored all of the above privately on the flute at my home.

Managerial Accounting

I work as a CPA every tax season preparing Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1020S, 709. In addition, as required by maintaining my CPA certificate, I take 80 hours of continuous professional education every two years including at least 20 hours of Federal taxation updates.
I also taught AICE Accounting at a local high school.

Prealgebra

I have taught high school mathematics for eight years. Four of the eight years were spent teaching PreAlgebra. In addition, I taught PreAlgebra at the middle school level prior to teaching high school. I am a certified mathematic teacher in the state of Florida. My certificate is through June 30, 2020.

Precalculus

I have a true passion for mathematics, especially Pre-Calculus and Trigonometry. I have taught both subjects for the last eight years at a 3,000 student high school. I taught two different Pre-Calulus classes; honors and AP (advanced placement). Prior to high school, I taught mathematics at a local state college. I worked approximately fifteen hours a week in their math lab. I also worked in the high school math lab and held after school tutoring sessions (free) four days a week. I have also helped students improve their SAT and ACT mathematics scores.

SAT Math

I am a state certified mathematics teacher for grades 6 to 12. While teaching high school, I taught mainly juniors and seniors that were preparing to take or re-take their SAT exam. I offered (for free) tutoring every afternoon Monday through Thursday. The sessions were open to all of my students so we covered a variety of mathematical subjects. Many afternoon sessions were strictly related to SAT tutoring. SAT tutoring as you know is different than studying one particular math such as Algebra II. The SAT questions are written in such a way as to show that you can apply the mathematics that you have learned. Memorizing formulas and rote memory are not sufficient. I love to teach students how to apply what they have learned through analysis of word problems.

Tax Preparation

I work as a CPA every tax season preparing Forms 1040, 1041, 1065, 1120, 1020S, 709. In addition, as required by maintaining my CPA certificate, I take 80 hours of continuous professional education every two years including at least 20 hours of Federal taxation updates.

Trigonometry

Although I love teaching mathematics, my passion is Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus. I taught Trigonometry for the last eight years at a 3,000 student high school in Florida. I hold a bachelor's degree and am a state certified mathematics teacher for grades nine through twelve. Prior to high school. I taught Trigonometry at a local state college where I earned the "Academic Excellence in Mathematics" award for the years 2006 to 2007. In addition, I held after hour study sessions three days a week complete with study notes necessary to pass Trigonometry exams. I also worked fifteen hours a week at the college's math lab.
