Handwriting

Handwriting has many components to it, including fine motor skills, and visual perceptual skills. Learning to handwrite requires a basic therapeutic technique acquired and taught to each person differently. My tutoring in this area, which is known to instruct the student in this academic skill is to allow him/her to express their thoughts and feelings and communicate with others. With my instruction the student will master multiple skills including vision, coordinating the eyes, arms, hands, memory, posture, and body control, as well as the task of holding a pencil and forming letters. My experience when teaching elementary and middle school children in basic essential handwriting was to help the student realize that this particular skill also measures what they are learning. At the completion of my instruction, students also realize that handwriting is a basic tool used in many phases of our daily life e.g. for taking notes, taking tests, and doing classroom work, and/or homework. Poor handwriting can have a significant effect on school performance and children who lack some of these skills may miss learning opportunities and lack self-esteem. When training and developing adults in their scholastic choices, I often remind them that ready use of the computer is good but appropriate and well-skilled handwriting is reflective on their character.

Proofreading

My perspective as the professional proofreader is to attend to the detail of the manuscript. In this regard, I will check spelling, punctuation, grammar, layout, and wording. Other major areas of the document/manuscript will include:
• content (assuring understanding of change),
• overall structure (assuring an appropriate introduction and conclusion), paragraph structure (confirming that each paragraph continues with the one main idea),
• clarity (verifying that each sentence is clear to express the writer’s ideas), style (concentrating assurance of the appropriate tone of the document (formal, informal, persuasive, etc.) and use of proper pronouns, and lastly citations (reviewing that appropriate quotes and paraphrases used are from validated sources.
Some of my respective several years of experience in proofreading and story editing displays my professionalism in this area:
* mentoring, coaching, and tutoring others in English, Language Arts, Humanities, and the Social Sciences.
*Composition and Creative Writing (published author of fictional and business technical writings),
*Grammar -Fictional writer and business technical writer
*Journalism - Author of magazines, short stories, and journals

Writing Skills - Grant writer, journalist, and author
