I am a seasoned educator who has been preparing students for college for over 35 years. Math, grammar/writing, and reading are my subjects of expertise. Since these are also the areas that determine SAT or ACT scores, I am the only tutor you would need to hire! I have taught Test Prep in many settings: classroom elective, classroom after school/Saturdays, small group, individual. Strategies to boost student confidence as well as scores are my favorite topics; I always feel greatly rewarded seeing teenagers' eyes widen when they realize that I have told them a way to avoid costly mistakes on a big test! We experience even more satisfaction when scores come back and have met or exceeded their goals!
After teaching in three local high schools for over three decades, I truly miss interacting with teenagers and making a difference in their lives. Tutoring, since I retired in June, 2014, has been a wonderful way for me to continue to do what I love and to work with young people again. My attention is focused completely on my students now that I am free from time-consuming, laborious paperwork much of which was contributing neither to my growth as an instructor nor to my students' learning. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
