Hello! My name is Philip. I'm excited about the opportunity to assist you in mastering the inherently difficult material in your math or physics course. I love mathematics and seeing the "Eureka!" moments when a student grasps a concept. As a graduate of Penn State with a B.S. Mathematics degree, I will provide you with a thorough knowledge of most branches of the subject. As an experienced tutor, I will offer the techniques, patience and flexibility required to help you master the material as an individual.

During my college studies I tutored fellow students in subjects ranging from geometry and basic algebra to linear algebra and multivariate calculus. I also acted as a supplementary instructor for a Calculus II course. In this capacity I assisted the professor by teaching and reviewing the concepts taught that week. We met twice a week for 2 hours. During my Junior year I voluntarily tutored a high school student in geometry. Since graduating I have tutored an engineer in differential equations in preparation for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam. He had previously failed twice, but succeeded after our sessions. I am now actively teaching geometry, algebra, discrete math, AP calculus, ACT preparation, and physics. Of course, I am available to help in other areas too. You can see my qualifications/certifications under the "Tutoring Subjects" tab.

One of my most effective teaching methods is to write problems based upon the student's area of difficulty. I like to start with very basic questions and slowly build up to larger, more interesting problems until the concept is fully grasped and appreciated. Of course, I will not waste time with an already mastered area unless the need for review comes up. If I write problems, I will do it on my own time (I greatly enjoy it anyway!). I also have several supporting materials and am familiar with a host of online resources.

I hope that you've found this brief background informative and that you'll consider me dedicated and experienced enough to be your tutor!

Calculus,

Calculus

I was a supplementary instructor of calculus 2 while at Penn State. Twice per week I met with a group of students to review, answer questions and provide additional materials and insight. Calculus is the bedrock of many higher level maths. I used it often as a vital tool in my undergrad work.
Physics,

Physics

I tutored two upper level college students in physics last semester. One student was studying Physics I. The other was taking Physics for Scientists and Engineers. The course material for each was challenging. Both showed significant improvement in understanding and both raised their grades.

Differential Equations

During college I was at the top of my differential equations class. I often took the lead when collaborating on homework and helped many of my peers with the material. I'm currently tutoring my second differential equations student in the past four months. It is one of my favorite subjects and I highly enjoy teaching and expanding its concepts and applications! I have a B.S. Mathematics degree.

Very clear and good at explaining

Although I've only had 2 lessons with Philip, he has made me understand more than my pre calc teacher has done in a month. He's very patient and good at explaining.

Patient Tutor

Phillip really helped my daughter understand hard calculus concepts for her math exam. After the tutor session, she was extremely confident with her skills. He was very patient with her and even made up problems as they progressed through the lesson. Very knowledgeable in calculus. Highly recommend and will be contacting him for further tutor sessions.

Philip is awesome!

Phil has been tutoring my son in Algebra II since Dec, and I have seen good progress. His grades have gone up and he is much more confident with it. He is always patient, punctual and explains things in a way that my son can understand and grasp quickly. We are definitely hanging on to him for next year when my son takes Trigonometry!! Thank you so much Phil!

Great tutor

Phillip know the material and knows how to teach it. Helps my daughter greatly. Even took the extra time to work from home on a cpl of problems that he texted back.

Wonderful tutor! Fantastic job.

Philip W. was great reviewing topics that will be covered for his next exam. He was able to clarify things for him. His overall understanding has greatly increased. We look forward to more sessions in the future!

Fantastic tutor

Philip tutored me for Diifferential Equations. We scheduled 2 hour lessons various times during each week for about a month. He came prepared for each meeting, and had many examples ready and guided me through any problems I had. As a result I was very prepared for my college course. I attend Rensselaer, which is an especially difficult engineering school (4th hardest), and managed to get a high B where my friends got around Cs. In comparison to the class I always scored above the average. Currently he is tutoring me for Multivariable calculus (calc 3, however in this school they combine calc 3 and linear algebra for a more intensive course) and so far I understand the material he has taught me. I expect to do well this upcoming semester in Multivar as well.

Amazing Tutor !

Phillip is a great teacher. He is so knowledgeable regarding the concepts in both pre-calc and physics, and is able to explain the concepts such that my child can grasp them and utilize them in her studies. We are extremely impressed too, how Phillip is so knowledgeable in both math and physics. He is friendly, respectful, and always on time. He works hard to fit into the students busy, ever changing schedule. He is a great tutor!
