About Josh

Hello there!

I am a professional private tutor specializing in Mathematics, Technical Sciences (chemistry, physics, economics), Test Preparation, Writing, Spanish Language, Computer Science, and Martial Arts (many disciplines). I have over a decade of experience with private instruction both as a personal trainer and as a tutor.

I love what I do and look forward to it every time! My philosophy is that learning is meant enjoyable and does NOT need to be a constant headache.

In addition, I am an advocate for technology implementation in the classroom and integrate technology (where applicable) in my lessons with you or your child. Some of these technologies include a whiteboard with over 50 different colored markers of varying styles, some calculators, my laptop and smartphone (with tethered wifi if necessary), and other fun tricks up my sleeve ;-).

I have worked with many people, primarily with upper level maths, over the past 10 years. I love learning with and from them, just like they do from me. I have special experience teaching students with different learning difficulties: dyslexia, cerebral palsy, ADD, etc.. I'm in this field to help in any way I can, adapting my style of instruction to that which best helps you or your child.

I'm dedicated to YOU no matter how long or short we work together. Your success is my success. So let's learn, have a good time, and get something out of our time together!

Thanks for reading! I keep my phone handy if you have any questions or someone who may need a hand!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I use the ACT Review textbook with the teacher's edition for extra explanation if necessary. On top of a few math tricks of my own from over 9 years of math tutoring, this book and online educational resourcing, tied along with my experience in tutoring ACT prep, make an excellent setup for study and improvement on the ACT.

Prealgebra

I've been a Math tutor for 7 years. I am uncertified, so my price is not that of a "Professional," per se. I am, however, very good at what I do and have a true heart for my students.

I took Pre Algebra when I was in 6th grade while homeschooling. Variables are just hidden numbers and ideas that we get to solve a puzzle of math to find out, after all!

I've tutored both of my younger sisters (Now 14) in Pre Algebra and have worked with various students in the same field.

Precalculus

I took Pre Calculus during the Summer via homeschool. Essentially, I taught myself about the subject and filled in the gaps with internet resources. I managed to score a fairly easy A while simultaneously helping my sister with her Algebra II. I found the Algebra Portion on Pre Calculus to be particularly intuitive while the polar plane (r, theta) takes a little bit of thinking to understand but eventually, it makes sense.

I had a lot of fun learning it. I did discover that while taking it alone, I wish I had a teacher to talk to about certain concepts so I highly empathize with anyone who is looking for a Pre Calculus tutor. I can be the missing link to help you succeed and I find that to be a true blessing!
