Hello! I am a tutor based out of Lake Mary with a background in early childhood education. I specialize in grade-school language arts, and I can also work with preschool/kindergarten-age children to develop early literacy. I plan a variety of fun and creative activities, and I can tailor my lessons to your child's individual learning style. I would be happy to work with your child in the long term to improve skills, or simply offer help with a specific book report, project, or test. I can also help support homeschooling, or develop a summer program while your child is on summer vacation!
I am certified in elementary education and I am formerly a Pre-K teacher. In my many years of working with children, I have seen that children learn most effectively when they are having fun or when they can make make a personal connection to the learning material. I strive to make my lessons fun and even active. You will find that my instructional approach is patient but persistent. I allow children as much time as they need to make connections, and boosting confidence is always a priority. My goal is to help children build strong writing, speaking, and comprehension skills, as well as a lifelong love of literature.

We arrived several minutes early to the library (which was the arranged place for the lesson) and Clare was already there ready with a table and study materials. They read together and she made study aids for him to work on the words he had trouble with. My son, Matthew, was very happy with his time with her and is looking forward to the next lesson.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Hello, I would like to be approved to teach Elementary K - 6. I am certified Elementary Education K - 6, and I am formerly a Pre-K teacher. I also have a B.A. in Psychology. I have been working in the education field since 2001. More recently, I have been tutoring a third-grader in all subjects, from reading comprehension to algebra to test preparation. My job is to offer support in everything that his teachers are working on with him. I excel at this through 8 -10 hours per week of one-on-one time with the student; many hours of preparation and review on my own time; and regular communication with his teachers and parents. I would like to be able to continue this kind of work with other students who need me.
Hello, I would like to be approved to teach phonics. I am certified Elementary Education K - 5, and I am formerly a Pre-K teacher, so I have quite a bit of experience in helping children master the basics. I also had great success in tutoring a preschooler to help her learn to read. I created phonics games based on "word families" as well as sight words, and each week I hand-picked books for her that tied in with our current word family theme. That child learned easily with my help. Please let me know if you need more information!
Hello, I would like to be approved to teach study skills. I am certified Elementary Education K - 5, and I am formerly a Pre-K teacher, so I have a great deal of background in helping students stay organized and self-disciplined. I also spent three years as a nanny for several families, and during that time, I helped the children with homework, projects, and test preparation on a regular basis. Most recently I am tutoring a third-grader in all subjects and I am responsible for helping him prepare for all tests and quizzes. I am seeing a steady improvement in his ability to stay on task while studying.
