All my life I wanted to teach. When I was little, I used to play a board game called "Go To the Head of the Class" with the other neighborhood kids.

I have been teaching and tutoring for the last 30 years. I am also a certified IOWA tester. Most of my experience has been one-on one. I have been teaching and tutoring for the last 30 years. I am also a certified IOWA tester. Most of my experience has been one-on one. I have great patience and the ability to know exactly what a student is asking and explain it in a way that the student will understand. Too many times I have sat in a class and watched someone get frustrated after asking the teacher to explain something and being given an answer has nothing to do with what the student asked. I will never do that to you.

During my last tutoring assignment, I raised a student's math ability from 3rd grade to over fifth grade in 4 months. Proof of this is provided by her IOWA test results. Of course, we worked about 20 hours a week, but she was 14 and had been home tutored by someone who was evidently not qualified or able to explain things well enough for the student to learn. When I started, she couldn't add, subtract, multiply, or divide even whole numbers. Now she can do the four operations on fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, geometry, and she greatly improved her spelling and proofreading skills. Care, concern, ability, understanding, patience and success are the qualities I can bring to you.

I have taken numerous math classes in order to be qualified to teach college level science classes. I have taken college math classes up to and including differential equations.

I have recently been tutoring elementary math including the new Singapore Math that many school are now using. Geometry was my favorite subject in HS and I can explain topics so that they are easily understood

In each year, another student started in kindergarten until I had students in high school, 7th grade, 6th, 5th, and 1st. They were home schooled and I was their teacher. The students came from three families. I am a certified IOWA tester and at the end of each school year, I gave them the IOWA test to gauge their progress. One of my 7th graders scored no less than the equivalent of 10th grade and on 4 tests, she was given a score of 12th grade +. I was so proud of her!

I have taught and tutored both regular math and the new Singapore math that many schools are now using. My master's degree is in elementary science education and allowed me to study math through calculus and up to differential equations. But my real math love comes from teaching young children and getting them started on the right track to enjoy and understand math for a lifetime.

I have taught reading to 7 students. All of them now excel in both reading and spelling. I use a method slightly different from phonics. I use a type of "synthetic" phonics, that in my experience of teaching reading, allows the student to begin to read much quicker and better than average. With both types of phonics, the desired result is the same, After all, the goal of phonics is to learn to read. My method is so similar to phonics that the child will not be confused when studying phonics in the classroom. This "synthetic" phonics is even now bring closely studied by expert educators as a superior teaching method to regular phonics.

As with anything your not sure of the person, let face it, we are both strangers. My kids at first were shy. Now after 3 weeks or four weeks my kids have broken out of their shells and are confident. Mrs. Joan has done a great job. She is patient and love kids.
