I have twenty-five+ years of experience teaching at public and private schools in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. I have also worked as a tutor (in homes, at after-school programs, for home schooling, and Huntington learning center). I earned a Master of Science degree from Florida State University and hold a current Florida teaching license as Highly Qualified in elementary.
I have taught second through fifth grades, resource classes, and tutored in classes, collaborating with the teachers. I love teaching all reading skills (phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension), the writing process, study skills, and math using hands-on and visual strategies. I have good success by problem solving how each student learns best, and working on weak and missing skills. I enjoy giving my students positive learning experiences and building their confidence to become life-long learners. I hope to hear from you soon. My daughter's 2nd grade teacher noted she saw improvement in my daughter's class participation, and this occurred after only three tutoring sessions with Sharon. And, after 5 sessions, my daughter was coming home with mostly A's on her school work. My daughter enjoys the one-on-one time with Sharon, and not only is her school work improving, her confidence is elevating. We are looking forward to continuing with Sharon, and unveiling the true potential my daughter has!
Thank you, Beth. I enjoy teaching and helping learners grow in skill and confidence. I appreciate your support and feedback. I have a couple more after school and would love to add some home schooled students during the school day. Please contact me if you need me at WyzAnt.com!
Sharon is a magnificent tutor, Her patience and knowledge on how to present something difficult for a child in something fun that a kid will remember is wonderful. My son has a lot of work from school for reading, and this is the subject he is taking tutoring for, Sharon has helped him so much. No more stress for him, he feels confident and is doing much better. She follow up on his work and I will recommend her anytime. Thank you so much!!
Sharon has a very loving heart and she truly knows what she is doing. I'm very satisfied with her work. In two weeks I see a major difference in my son, who is only 4.
Mrs. White has been very patient with my son. My son is in 6th grade and adjusting to middle school math has bee a challenge. He feels a bit more confident after just 3 sessions. I hope that it continues to grow.
This was our fourth session with this tutor. She has been very helpful in teaching basic reading and grammar to my son. We are quite satisfied.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to a MS in Special Education from FSU, I am an experienced educator and have a son with ADD who is grown and a new father himself. I have used multi-sensory methods and programs to more fully engage in learning during a long career in public, private, home school and tutoring settings. I also include short achievable goals, frequent changes in activities, can tolerate fidgitting, and incorporate some movement.
In addition to a MS in Special Education from FSU, I have taught in special education resource rooms in public elementary schools with students with Aspergers diagnosis. I also worked for five years in an assisted living community for mentally handicapped residents, including several with autism. I am creative and resourceful to find ways to problem solve and willing to learn and try new ideas.
In addition to a MS in Special Education from FSU, I have taught in two schools that specialized in dyslexia, ADD, and ADHD using multi-sensory and hands-on activities. I also used the Rene Herman's Reading Program in the resource room with children who were identified as both learning disabled and language disabled. I spent two years working with a home school child as well.
I am a Florida certified Elementary Special Education Teacher with more than 25 years experience in public, private, home school, and tutoring. I have taught in regular education as well as being a resource teacher and full time special needs teacher in a school for special needs including dyslexia.
I started teaching when penmanship was part of the curriculum and taught it for many years. In addition, cursive writing is an important component of the Rene Herman reading program for dyslexic learners because it helps differentiate the letter symbols in this kinesthetic phonics program.
Phonics and word analysis are key to higher reading skills for average and above average learners. Through three college courses and a long career in special education, with many cycles of curriculum change and in-service training, phonics has never been omitted in my classrooms. I have used multiple reading programs and techniques for teaching phonics.
I have a masters degree in Education with 25+ years of teaching regular and special needs students. I have taught in public schools, private schools, and tutored privately and in after school.
I have a Master's degree in special education with initial certification for specific learning disabilities, intellectual disability, inter-related areas of special education, and behavioral disabilities. In addition to more than 25 years in public and private schools and tutoring, I have done respite, in-home care, and five years with mentally handicapped adults at an assisted living community. As a resident adviser, I assisted with social skill, community and daily living skill development and supervised community trips.
Special education teachers were using idea mapping and mneumonics before research based instruction began. I have used the SRA Study Skills program and incorporated study skills such as mapping ad outlining into as many lessons as possible over the years.
