About Carl

Are you in need of someone who is an experienced online instructor, creative and has a good sense of humor? If so, look no further – I'm here. LOL!

I was awarded Faculty of the Year 2011 at Columbia Southern University’s Sociology program.

I was also awarded Faculty of the Quarter 2010 at Remington College.

I believe that learning should be fun and I am very good about motivating students to participate, which is good for retention as well.

I am a visionary and futurist regarding where education is going and where it should be going.

I introduce myself to students using the following bio:

Good morning/afternoon everyone!!

I'm Dr. Carl B. (I go by Dr. B) and I have a Ph.D. in Multicultural Education/Creative Writing, The Union Institute, Cincinnati, OH. Title of dissertation: A Study of Multicultural Education--The Emphatic Way--Focusing on Social Anthropology and Social Psychology as it Relates to the Native American.

I was born a Cherokee (mixed-blood) on a ranch in Southern Indiana, where we raised horses, cattle and grain. I was just about born in the saddle.

My wife and I are living in Kissimmee, Florida…about 25 minutes from Disney World. We moved here from the Navajo Reservation (northeast AZ).

Our home is located on a par 5 on the 11th fairway. It’s a beautiful backyard and I do not have to mow it!

My academic background includes administrative experience as an Assistant Superintendent for Academics on the Navajo Reservation, Assistant Principal for a Native American High School (Boarding School) in South Dakota, and Principal for an Elementary/Junior High School in Indiana.

My teaching experience includes teaching in the inner city, teaching Native American students from more than 40+ tribes. I have taught grades K-12 as well as developed and taught undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate courses. I have also designed and implemented individual transition plans and curriculum.

In addition, I have compiled a vast array of innovative methods of teaching culturally and ethnically diverse student populations in order to celebrate each group's diversity and their commonalities.

Leisure? Fun? I do not allow anything in my life that would even hint of such nonsense…..KIDDING!

I enjoy golf…I used to score in the high 70’s to low 80’s, but since it’s been quite a while, I’ll just throw a ‘heck-u-va’ party breaking 100.

My saddles are sitting on a ‘saw-horse’ in my office -- so, that might show you that I’m a little eclectic.

I also really enjoy online facilitation/instruction.

Last, but not by any means least; teaching and learning should be fun!! I love humor in whatever I'm doing, and I'm really looking forward in working and learning with all of you and reading your bios as well!

Walk in beauty.
Dr. B

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Sociology

My PhD is in Multicultural Education, which is included in sociology. For example, I was awarded Faculty of the Year 2011 at Columbia Southern University’s Sociology program and awarded Faculty of the Quarter 2010 at Remington College teaching.
