In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a brother who has been diagnosed with ADD and ADHD, along with a plethora of other things. I have been in classrooms for 6 years, and there have been children in each who fit this description. I work with them by using short word phrases, refocus them continually as needed, and present them with short lessons to keep them engaged and interested.
I currently teach in a school where part of the student population consists of children with this diagnosis. Each child behaves differently, so we treat each child differently.
My younger brother was diagnosed with autism, so I grew up with it. I also currently teach children who fall on the spectrum. Each child needs individual and varied instructions, but they receive it so they can achieve their potential.
