I am a 31 year old female and have 2 years teaching experience in the public school system in Jacksonville, Florida. As a teacher at an inner city ESL school, I am aware of the challenges that face our students in regard to testing, performance, learning environment, and peer relations, and realize that some students excel at a much greater rate through one-to-one instruction. My teaching style is highly dependent upon the needs of the child; some children work better through kinesthetic learning while others work well in memory. I would love to speak with you in regard to your child's learning style in order to help serve you best.
If you are looking for a tutor for your child from grades 3-5 and/or Spanish, I would love to help.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'd like to be certified in k-6 because I have experience teaching all subjects within these grades and enjoy it greatly. From 2006-2008 I was the lead teacher for a 5th grade class in a public school in Jacksonville, Florida for an ESL center that contained students from the community, but also students who had recently entered the U.S. We had a variety of teaching strategies passed on to us do to the continual arrival of students from all over the world, so we had to be prepared for changing instruction technique in order to meet the needs of each child. I taught 5th grade math (geometry, number sense, concept, etc.), reading, writing, science, social studies, and spelling for about 20 students.
I carry a temporary certificate for teaching 5th grade and have completed a portfolio that acts in accordance toward a professional degree.
Prior to teaching 5th grade, I was substituting teaching for all elementary grade levels. And prior to teaching in the States, I was living in Latin America working with children in an after school program/Christian based ministry. We taught english as a second language and adults in literacy. Hence, I am able to tutor in Spanish as well.
I have a BA degree with a Spanish minor. I have three years of in-country experience with Spanish.
I have a BA in English, including Writing.
