I am Richard, and I am a Math (up to pre-calculus) tutor. I graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. During my 20+ years in aviation, I have taught and trained employees to become more knowledgeable and conversant with myriad tasks, thus improving their skill set and attitude towards the job. Over the years, I have honed the ability to motivate students in order to realize their academic potential, improve their inner strengths and confidence, and I have developed ways not to make learning seem like an arduous chore. I realize that the “one size fits all” concept is not practical, and as such, lesson plans are set up based on the student’s individual strengths, weaknesses, level of enthusiasm, and unique learning style.

I believe that engaging students in interactive lessons and making them active participants in the learning process is the most effective way to teach Math. In general, I emphasize concepts as opposed to getting the correct answers because the latter usually falls in place once students grasp the former. Moreover, much of these concepts transcend Math, and they may be applied to other areas of study. As such, it is my goal to instill a desire for constant knowledge within each student. I find it particularly gratifying when students relate stories of how they impart lessons learnt to their colleagues.

With lessons learnt from years of tutoring, I have developed the ability to break down complex concepts and idea in ways students are able to comprehend and relate. I have also realized that parent's involvement and getting the student (and parent) to share my vision greatly enhances the student's success.
