This is my first time being a paid tutor, but I've had experience in tutoring fellow classmates and family friends. The HUGGS mentor program also gave me experience in teaching young children from elementary school reading and math. I love tutoring in that it is able to spread knowledge and help young ones keep up in class. As a senior at Stanton College Preparatory, I know how hard school can become and wish to make it easier for those who have trouble in certain areas. I also have some tips for middle and high school students about keeping up with assignments and preparing for upcoming tests. Time management is one of the main issues that students are required to face as courses become more challenging. Certain ways of note taking are also essential in building study habits and increasing scores for a test.
Math have always been one of my strongest subjects. I have excelled in every math course up to calculus, including AP Statistics, and am currently enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at my school. I have taken 5 years of Chinese now and am currently the Vice President of Stanton's National Chinese Honor Society. I've attended a Chinese competition and have received a 7/7 on the International Baccalaureate Chinese SL exam. Other areas such as language arts, science, and history are also on my list as potential tutoring areas. In science, I've taken Biology in middle school, Chemistry as a freshman, and Physics as a sophomore. I've continued studying AP Chemistry as a junior and am currently enrolled in International Baccalaureate Chemistry SL. My school requires students to take AP courses in history/language arts such as AP World History, AP European History, AP US History, and AP Literature/Language Arts."AP" stands for Advanced Placement and it gives students challenging coursework in the specific area. The student is required to take a cumulative test at the end of the year and their score could earn them a college credit at colleges that accept them. These challenging courses have not only taught me studying habits, time management/organization, but have also given me college credits making college easier and more affordable.
I am available from Monday-Thursday 4:00-6:00PM and Saturday-Sunday 9:00AM-4:00PM. My rate is $20/hr and I am willing to travel up to 10 miles.
Hoping I would be of help to those in need. I look forward to the honor with working with you and your family and hope you/your family continues to succeed in school. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
