Ramapo College (Ba in Theater)
St John's University (Other)
Allow me to introduce myself to those seeking a tutor from Wyzant. To start out, I am a multi-lingual tutor who has a BA in Theater/Speech and an MA in Theology.
I have tutored many persons. Especially students of language groups other than English. As a matter of fact, for 10 years I was the sole foreign language proofreader for an international reader's guide to periodical literature.
I have tutored persons of many different languages in English as a second language and especially (at their request) in accent reduction. My students of ESL have reported to me the increase in their understanding of the very difficult and confusing dialect of American English! Spoken American English is very difficult to understand and is very unlike the English that a person from a non-English language might find in a book. I am able to help the beginner in English learn to understand and BE understood with tricks that I have learned over my many years of teaching English and studying dialect pronunciation as an actor.
During my 13 years working in outreach to persons of different language groups at Lutheran General Hospital, my manager described me as "significantly exceeds expectations". You will too!
As for my experience as a tutor for theater, I have a BA in theater and have done such roles as Oliver in the musical Oliver, Touchstone the Jester in Shakespeare's As You Like It, Polonius in Hamlet, the Doctor in Macbeth and many other classical roles, When I was performing a role in a play by Sidney Kingsley, I was described by Mr. Kingsley (who lived down the road from our college) as "better than the actor who played the role in the movie and better than the actor who played the role on Broadway."
In my twenties, I even took a class from a ninety year old woman who was one of the original members of the Stanislavsky troop of actors who had migrated from Russia to the United States! Stanislavsky was the acting theorist who invented "Method Acting".
I studied tapdancing with an ex-rockette and have taught tapdancing, especially what is called the "soft-shoe" style to many students.
As I was studying theater in college, I coached many actors and helped them to arrive at uniquely nuanced and profound performances which deeply impressed their professors and fellow students. I took classes in improvisational acting from Judy Fisher from the second city and later taught a workshop in improv at our college
My competence as a tutor for Bible is significant as I have studied all the Biblical languages, Hebrew, Greek, Latin and am now studying Aramaic and am a member of a church in which the liturgy is celebrated in the ancient Aramaic language, the language which Christ spoke!
I am anxious to begin your learning journey and will give you skills to help you in your own life adventure. Let's make your experience a broad and fulfilling one!
thank you for the opportunity!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have read the Bible in the original Hebrew and Greek versions. I have a Masters in Theology. I am now studying Aramaic especially the words of Jesus in the Peshitta version. I have a sense of the History of the biblical texts, knowing that the canon as we know it was first listed by Athanasius and the canon was officially defined at the council of Carthage (in Africa), a council that was called a year after the council of Hippo Regio (also in Africa), which also discussed the canon of scripture. I can help students through confusing biblical questions that they have toward a living and dynamic relationship with the God who loves them and wishes to partner (covenant) with them through life.
I have a BA in Theater/Speech 1977 from Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ. I have studied improvisational acting with Judy Fisher from Second City. Afterwards I taught a non-credit improvisational acting class at my college. I coached acting while going to school at Ramapo.
