UNC Wilmington, Watson College of Education (Elementary Education)
I have graduated from UNC Wilmington with my Bachelor's in Elementary Education. I'm still awaiting receipt of my teaching license. I have spent many hours in classrooms over the last few years. I have worked with students in Kindergarten to 5th grade. My degree is K-6. I love working with students. I have loved helping people learn since I was a child, helping my sister, who was seven years older and learning disabled, learn to read and write. I love to watch their minds grow, and the excitement they express when they understand something that was giving them trouble!
I have worked with many students on their reading and comprehension abilities. I know different methods of bringing the information to the child to help him or her work through the words, or the sentences. I have taught lessons in different classrooms. I have taken and passed the PRAXIS 2 exam, which was required to become an educator. I have worked with Common Core curriculum and DODEA Curriculum.
I would love to help K-6 students who might need help with whatever they might be struggling with in the classroom. I have great organizational skills, and can help teach them different ways to find a system that works for them. The success of the student depends greatly on the preferred method of the student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
