Welcome to my tutoring profile. It has been my pleasure to serve as a teacher, coach, and leader for over 20 years. My experience has been in the realm of higher education, with a special emphasis on creating and facilitating student success programs. These programs have catered to students transitioning from high school to college, students within their first year of college, students re entering college, and continuing students who need supplemental help.
I have discovered that most learning difficulties with any subject are usually not a result of a student's inability to learn a particular subject, but difficulties derive from apprehension and mental obstacles (depends on individual background) that impede total comprehension. Besides teaching the concepts of a particular subject, I strive to coach students by helping them learn to learn the subject, which does so much more than teaching students how to regurgitate information. Recalling information is certainly a part of the goal. However, using the coaching model helps students transcend what they acquire in a particular tutoring event to other learning events.
I hold a Master of Science in Communication Studies, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Communication, and an Associate of Arts in Business Honors. i have also completed all courses leading to the Doctor of Education degree. I have over 20 years of teaching experience in the areas of communication, writing, public speaking, various social sciences subjects, cultural diversity, and student success specialty classes (i.e. goal setting, study skills, planning and organization). Ten years of my experience in education have included executive leadership, serving as a faculty trainer, campus chair, dean, and director of education.
I wish to share my experience and passion for student learning with the world.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master's degree in Communication.
