About Sierra

Hello, I am pleased to meet you all! I currently teach at a school for middle school students with diagnosed LDs and DDs in Jacksonville, Florida. I now teach, reading/language arts, pre-algebra and algebra, American history, human biology, and debate and public speaking. I come from teaching in West Houston where I taught English II and seventh grade Language. I taught ninth grade World Geography and AP Human Geography my first year of teaching. During my time as a social studies teacher, I also worked alongside the English department with STAAR test preparation and writing enhancement. In addition to the English department, I was also working to adapt an ESL program on campus for all LEP students. Many of the students were ESL students and needed assistance in regard to education and learning English as a whole. Outside of ELA/social studies, I am a Spanish tutor. I am a former girl's volleyball coach, musical director, and currently a tutor in my spare time. In my spare time, I practice and learn languages, read, exercise, research, volunteer, and mentor young college women. I look forward to working with you. Hello, I am pleased to meet you all! Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am currently an 8th-grade teacher for LD students. I have taught 7th grade Language and 10th grade English teacher (English II: Multicultural Literature) for LD students as well. This is my third year teaching. I am approved for vocabulary and grammar, but I also am great at writing as I have taught writing courses for testing preparation.

Geography

I am a former high school social studies teacher. I taught ninth grade AP Human Geography and World Geography.

Grammar

I have been working with English Departments in both public and private schools for two years and counting. I am a former 7th grade Language and 10th grade English teacher (English II: Multicultural Literature) for LD students, and I currently teach 8th-grade LD students. This is my third year teaching. I am approved for vocabulary and grammar, but I also am great at writing as I have been over writing courses for testing preparation.

Social Studies

I am a former high school social studies teacher. I taught ninth grade AP Human Geography and World Geography.

Spanish

I have been learning the Spanish language for 12 years, and I truly love it. I have taken classes in Spanish literature, linguistics, Spanish history, advanced grammar and compositions, etc. By me helping others through tutoring, I will also help myself by reviewing and practicing earlier Spanish that we now hint on in upper level classes. I currently tutor students on campus by phone, e-mail, and in person with their compositions, daily homework lessons, as well as their oral presentations at the end of the semester because it isn't always who sounds the best, it's who actually knows what they're saying even if they speak without rolling their tongue.

Vocabulary

I have been working with English Departments in both public and private schools for two years and counting. I am a former 7th grade Language and 10th grade English teacher (English II: Multicultural Literature). This is my third year teaching and my first year teaching 8th-grade. I am approved for vocabulary and grammar, but I also am great at writing as I have taught writing courses for testing preparation. As a current English and Language teacher, I believe that my assistance could truly enhance one's vocabulary. I present both ACT and general Words of the Day each day to my students which gives them a better understanding of word usage as they draft essay biweekly using the select words.
