My name is Mike, and I am looking to tutor part time (weekdays after 6:00PM and weekends anytime) in all levels of math and physics (elementary, high school or college). I have worked full time in the Engineering field for 20 years and work in a team environment. I really enjoy teaching and helping others, preferably in a small group environment. My teaching philosophy is getting to understand concepts, the bigger picture in learning and practicing through example problems. I enjoy problem solving, love working with numbers and physics.
I have an extensive math background through undergraduate engineering and a graduate finance degree. I am reliable, have good character references and have experience tutoring my neighbors and friends. I really am excited about the opportunity to help you, a family member or friend learn, understand and apply in the real world, concepts of math and science and am passionate about learning! I am available weekday evenings (after 6:00PM) and Saturdays and Sundays (mornings).
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a vast understanding of mathematical concepts from Algebra I and II, geometry, trigonometry, advanced math, pre calculus and calculus. I can assist you or your family member in preparing for the ACT Math test. I completed the ACT Math as part of my undergraduate engineering entrance exam and can apply my experience in helping you prepare and achieve positive results. My philosophy is understanding basic concepts followed by working many example problems to reinforce concepts.
I have tutored previously in Algebra I, assisting my neighbors who are taking pre-college courses. My tutoring philosophy is first understand the concepts and then work examples to reinforce. I have an understanding of: factoring of equations, graphing, solving simple and complex equations, multiplying and dividing polynomials, word problems.
I have tutored in Algebra II locally in my neighborhood in assisting in helping my neighbors pre pare for college level classes. My teaching philosophy is basic understanding of concepts followed by working thru many examples to reinforce them. I have worked extensively with: inequalities, linear functions, graphing, real numbers, absolute numbers, quadratic functions, rationale functions, inverse functions all they way thru the calculus level.
I have completed undergraduate and graduate level calculus in support of my BS in Civil Engineering degree and my MBA in Finance graduate degree. My philosophy in teaching these courses is a basic understanding of concepts followed by working many example problems in reinforce. Concepts I can teach/assist include: elementary derivatives and integration, partial differentiation, tangent plane function, Taylor's formula, divergence of a vector field, integration by parts, double and higher order integrals, first and second order differential equations and Laplace transforms.
I graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil engineering. I passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Test in 1995 and am a Registered Professional Engineer in Florida since 2004. I have worked in the field since 1994 and my strengths in teaching include: statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, geotechnical and water resources engineering.
I complete a 4 credit course in differential equations as part of my Civil Engineering Bachelor of Science degree. Included in my studies of differential equations included: Integration by parts, partial derivatives, parametric equations, implicit differentiation, gradient vectors and divergence of vector field. I can assist with both concepts, example problem practice, real world application and test preparation.
I completed both Macro and Micro Economics both with Engineering concentration as part of my under-graduate degree and business concentration as part of my MBA in Finance graduate degree. My teaching philosophy is basic understanding of concepts, followed by working many practice problems to reinforce. I can assist with concepts including: Declining marginal utility, purchasing power parity, profit margin, regression analysis and other micro/macro concepts.
I have background in managerial finance in both my current job working as a manager/project manager as well as graduate degree/MBA Finance. My teaching philosophy is basic understanding of concepts followed by practice problems in reinforce. I can assist in subjects such as: Present/future value of money, Currency exchange rates, valuation of stocks/bonds, MS Excel finance tracking of budget spreadsheets, company research and other topics as needed.
I have worked extensively with geometry from high school thru my working years as a Civil Engineer. My teaching philosophy is basic understanding of the concepts followed by working thru example problems. I have experience in geometric definitions, proofs, coordinate systems, curves, graphing and equations of lines, curves, distances, angles and formulas for ellipses, hyperbola, parabola, spheres, helixes etc.
I completed the GMAT exam as a requirement for entrance to graduate school and can assist you or your family member in preparing for the exam (with a focus on math). I have background in calculus, linear algebra, trigonometry which covers most of the concepts covered on the GMAT exam. I recommend working practice problems while using multiple choice test taking skills to maximize grade.
As part of my undergraduate Civil Engineering program, I completed course study in linear algebra. Concepts include: Solving complex matrices, minors and cofactors, determinants, matrix addition, subtraction, multiplication and transposing matrices. I have also applied linear algebra in solving simultaneous linear equations and eigenvalues and eigenvectors. I can assist with concepts, example/practice problems and test preparation.
I have worked extensively with MS Excel for nearly 20 years both at home and at work. I have utilized and can teach, basic concepts of spreadsheets, formulas, organization, graphing, sorting, macros and setting up of workbooks. My teaching philosophy is that of understanding of basic concepts, followed by applying that understanding to example problems.
I have background and working experience in MS Project and Primavera scheduling through my working experience in working in Programs and Project Management. I can assist you or your family member in the basics, such as scheduling, cost loading, predecessors, successors, milestones, critical path, loading funding and resources. My philosophy in teaching MS Project is working through a lot of practice problems and scenarios.
I would like to assist you or your family member with any help you need in high school or college level. I have a passion for all levels of physics teaching concepts and working thru example problems. Physics is the basis of my Civil Engineering degree and would like to share my passion for the subject with others. I can assist with the following topics: Statics, dynamics, Kinematics and kinetics, Newton's laws of motion, circuits, optics, lenses, sound, frequency, wavelength etc.
I utilize regular basic math and pre-algebra concepts daily both in home and at work. My teaching philosophy is understanding basic concepts followed by applying knowledge thru working example problems. I have taken many standardized tests from high school through graduate school as well as certification for my profession and can assist you or your family member in preparing for the PSAT test (math component). I currently tutor in algebra, geometry and algebra II as well as many other math related subjects and recommend many practice problems and multiple choice test taking skills to maximize score.
I am ready to assist in preparing you or your family member for the SAT MATH test. I have taken the SAT, ACT and GMAT tests for entry into undergraduate and graduate school. My background in probability and statistics includes undergraduate and graduate studies in support of my Engineering degree and MBA in Finance degree. I also apply models in linear regression, standard deviation and variance in my career in engineering analysis of predicting economic damages and losses as well as predicting employees, ratings, salaries/level of position against mathematical models. I work closely with new project managers and team members in application of these statistical models and can apply this to tutoring/teaching in a one on one scenario.
