South Dakota State University (History)
I was a 5th grade teacher in South Dakota last year and recently moved to Florida to be with my wife. I have extensive experience, both in and out of the classroom. I was a substitute teacher in South Dakota for 5 years and subbed from 2nd grade all the way to seniors. My motto is: "any grade, any subject, any time!" I also completed three long-term teacher assignments at the elementary school(5th grade), middle school (7th grade), and high school (11th grade) levels. I had the pleasure of being a 5th grade teacher to 20 students last year and loved it! I thoroughly enjoy working with students and helping them achieve their academic goals!
My tutoring experience occurred in South Dakota involving two high school students. One student was stricken with Leukemia and I tutored him at his home for two years. The other student was a senior who had been involved in a life-changing accident and was unable to attend school. I tutored him at his home for his entire senior year and helped him complete requirements to graduate with his senior class!
I am looking forward to working with students in a variety of academic areas. My background is in social studies, but I enjoyed teaching spelling, reading, math, and social studies to 5th grade students last year. I know that my background, both in and out of the classroom, will go far in helping students achieve academic goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
