Hey there! My name is Celeste and I've recently located to Jacksonville. I'm originally from Los Angeles, California, and enjoying the new move! I love the sun, the beach, and hanging out with my darling kitty Sophie.
I have been tutoring since 2008. I mainly work with elementary-aged students, but I have experience tutoring middle school students. I have served two terms with AmeriCorps and spent countless hours performing community service. I obtained my bachelor's degree from UCLA and teaching certification from the State of Florida DOE. Currently, I am almost done with my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction/Elementary Comprehensive (yay!). In addition, I am a 5th grade teacher for Duval County Public Schools. Even though the school year is over, the teaching doesn't stop! I have future ambitions of developing an afterschool program for girls - look out for it!
In my current position, I only teach math and science. This works out for me, since I LOVE math and science! Back in high school when I aspired to become a doctor, I was selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum for medicine. Although I'm a teacher, I still get to teach my students medical lessons. Truly the best of both worlds. Not to worry though - I am more than able to assist with reading and writing skills. I still find that many older students still need a refresher in the mechanics of writing.
I'm a stickler for organization, accountability, and punctuality. I take learning very seriously because it is both inevitable and necessary for the development of children into informed adults. In the past, I met with my tutoring clients at either their homes or a local library. I do prefer a library setting just in case my lesson calls for an online video.
I know that summer is upon us, and with that comes vacations and trips. I am flexible with scheduling as long as I receive proper notice when there is a change. I will do the same, since I'll have some teaching workshops to attend periodically throughout the summer.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My teaching certificate is in Elementary K-6. I am a 5th grade teacher for Duval County Public Schools. I am going into my second year of teaching, with one year of student teaching previously completed in this area.
