I am a certified teacher specializing in social studies and language arts and a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction. I have experience in tutoring students in ACT/SAT verbal and reading portions, Civics End of Course exam, U. S. History, language arts, life science, K-5 math and study skills for all ages.
I have had a great deal of success working with ESOL students as well as native speaking students.
My 25 years spent in the legal field gives me an edge on teaching civics. I have also traveled extensively, including having been to all 50 states.

Group rates: If two students wish to share their time, the rate would be $60 per hour for both.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored students for the ACT English exam both privately and in groups of up to 8 students.
I have a great deal of experience in tutoring all aspects of the verbal portions of these standardized tests and am eager to help other students with increasing their score.
As a teacher of U.S. History, I believe I can be of great assistance to students struggling with this subject.

Although I am primarily a middle school teacher, I have tutored, with a degree of success, two four year old children in phonetic reading. It may be a very young age, however, the parents were anxious to have their children reading.
Strategies include initially teaching letter recognition, then equating that letter with the sound(s) it makes. Next, I teach basic words, then use words that have similar spellings that rhyme.
The next phase integrates the use of alliterations in simple words.
