I am Luis! I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. When I came to the United States in the 70's, I strived for higher education. As I shared my time working and studying most of the time, it was not easy to compete with the other students to be nominated for any awards.
After I retired of my engineering job, I became a tutor with Kumon Company in Jacksonville, Florida. I primarily tutored arithmetic, elementary algebra and advanced algebra. Virtual tutoring became more common in the past three years and, the Kumon Center game me the assignment to tutor virtually the subjects said above. Virtually as Face-to-Face tutoring consisted in correcting the homework's sheets during the session and, any exercise done with the wrong answer after second attempt, I conducted a full explanation and correcting the homework exercise, confirming a clear understanding.
At the present, I am part-time employee at Florida State College at Jacksonville assisting students to access their tests on the computers of the testing lab center. As a college employee, I have the opportunity to take free classes on any subject. Last fall semester of 2023, I decided to refresh myself on the math subject and I took College Algebra. As a reward from the professor, for having A grade through the course with all the assignments and tests, he exempted me from the final exam giving an A as a final grade. At the testing lab center, I always give some encouragement to the students that take the math tests and they do poorly. I tell them “math subject is like playing a musical instrument, the more playing is done the better they get”. In reality, any math instructor emphasizes to do a lot of exercises to do better in the course.
I am interested on giving the necessary help to students for their improvement of the math subject. I accept any comments expressing the needs of the students for better accommodations and changes to make the students interested with the class.
