About Dan

My introduction to Microsoft Office began when I was an anthropology student in my home state of Oklahoma in the early 1990's. My focus was biological anthropology, so numbers were everything. I created a few databases to track skeletal populations, but I was won over when I discovered a nifty relational database application called Access 2.0. From there, I used MS Excel to calculate growth rates of people who lived 4,000 years ago in southeast Oklahoma, and I used MS Word to write my thesis. While I was writing my thesis, I worked at the New Horizons Computer Learning Center as a Senior Instructor for 18 months. My experience there was like a boot camp of Microsoft Office instruction, where I learned and taught all the applications within the Microsoft Office suite every day, day in and day out, to students of every every skill level, from Beginning to Advanced, earning outstanding evaluations.

My Microsoft skills were put to use when I joined a small software start-up in Lafayette, Louisiana, the heart of Cajun country. After 11 years there, I rose to Senior Project Manager, learning to manage a group of very smart people in order to create a database application that was bought by a multinational petroleum company to track rig activity. To increase my credibility, I took a series of Microsoft Office examinations and was awarded the certificate for Microsoft Office Master. Since then, I continue to hone my teaching and Microsoft Office skills by being asked to transform and analyze data for some of the largest corporate entities in the world. But my first love will always be teaching.
