I knew I wanted to be a teacher by the time I entered middle school. I began by teaching the flute. As an adult, I designed a music studio in my home. I offered private lessons, group lessons and competition/event preparation. I also earned a certification in stress management. Using my new skills, I tutored a student in reading, study habits, test preparation and project organization for four years. This young man is now an A student attending college. I was a "stay-at-home mom" for many years. I nurtured my love of education by volunteering and substitute teaching.
As an educator, I have had the opportunity to observe a variety of teaching styles. My friends say I am creative, energetic and enthusiastic. I embrace the fact that every student has different abilities, needs, desires and passions. It would be my pleasure to work with you and demonstrate my qualifications. Together, we will make a difference and achieve your goals!
I am an avid reader and proofreader. I keep up with writing as the secretary of my neighborhood Homeowners Association. Vocabulary and grammar have always interested me.
My music lessons encompass rhythm, tone, breathing production, sight reading, expression and musicianship. My children both played instruments growing up. My oldest daughter became a member of The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp.
I enjoy teaching in the comfortable and inviting environment that home tutoring provides. One of the greatest rewards of teaching is the relationships I have developed with my students. I look forward to meeting you and beginning a new journey together. I knew I wanted to be a teacher by the time I entered middle school. I began by teaching the flute. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I attended the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music as well as the Manhattan School of Music. Both are rated among the top ten schools in the country. Experience in the public sector includes both public school and private flute instruction. I have studied under renowned teachers such as John Wion and Katherine Hoover. My repertoire is extensive and includes all Bach and Mozart Sonatas. All lessons incorporate music fundamentals. I accept students from beginner to adult. Lessons generally include working on the student's band or class music, followed by supplemental exercises that I provide. I enjoy playing duets with my students! You can read more under the General Music qualifications.
I attended the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music as well as the Manhattan School of Music. Both are noted as one of the top ten schools in the country. A large part of my education was dedicated to learning all aspects of teaching music. I am self taught on the piano and folk guitar. I teach all fundamentals of music. I am proficient in any lesson book you may have. Rhythm and music values (a whole note gets four beats) are strongly linked to math and reading. My other skills include sight reading, music theory, sight singing, and ear training.
