Hi, I'm Emelyne! Hi, I'm Emelyne! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English from Florida Atlantic University, but in my heart, I will always be a student, which may be why I am so passionate about helping others learn! I've always believed that the key to learning anything is to have a teacher who makes learning enjoyable. This is what I want to provide for my students: an enthusiastic teacher, a fun learning experience, and the skills to retain new information. When I teach, I make sure to tailor it to my students needs, to relay the information in a way that sparks their interest and make learning not a lecture, but a conversation. With each student, I make it my mission to find out what their learning style is (audio, visual, hands-on, etc.) and construct my sessions, and their homework, to suit their needs. I also like to maximize time spent on areas where my students may be weak and give them the skills to become confident and well-rounded in any and all of my subjects.
I first started tutoring unofficially in elementary math and pre-algebra when I was in the 6th grade, and my "students" at that point were my very own classmates, as well as several kids a few years older! Maths have always been my favorite subjects, and as I result, I was a good enough student that by the 6th grade, I was in pre-calculus and geometry courses. Because my first tutoring experiences were with my own peers, I was able to acquire a unique perspective on how to best to engage that age group; I taught the same way that my best teachers did, but I spoke to them as an equal. I continued to tutor in various maths until I began college.
Later on, in high school, I went on to tutor officially in reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar, for the volunteer service group "Buddy Reading". In exchange for the volunteer service hours needed to graduate, I tutored 1-5 kids in grades 3-5 each week in these subjects, and helped them become more confident readers and proficient writers. Once I graduated from high school, I continued tutoring this age group at my local community center, both in one-on-one sessions, and in small groups.
Once I was in my third year of college, and many of my former students weren't little kids anymore, I decided to start tutoring them, as well as other students, in the ACT Reading, English, and Math, and do my best to help them achieve the perfect score that I once had! For the last ten years, I have had these subjects on my roster and have worked with my students diligently, ensuring that they know exactly what these tests entail, what material will be covered, how to maximize their study sessions, and how to take them.
I am completely devoted to the success of each and every one of my students. If they don't understand something, I won't give up until I find a way to make sure that they do. My ultimate goal is to make sure that each of my students becomes successful enough to no longer need me. I want them to become better students, to be confident in the skills that they learn with me, and with each student, I become a better teacher. Feel free to check out my schedule and contact me if you think that I might be the right fit for you or our child; even if what you need may fall outside of my availability window, I will try to accommodate you. I look forward to working with you!
