About Trevina

Greetings! I am a college graduate with a B.A. in philosophy from University of Florida. Currently, I work in the field of Community Outreach and volunteer as a research assistant part-time, but I love tutoring students to help them reach their full potential academically. My primary areas of expertise are in philosophy and English Literature. I have great respect for both subjects and am able to see their useful applications in everyday life. Philosophy as a subject demands active engagement and mental participation with the ideas being expressed. It challenges our minds to stretch the possibilities of reason to arrive at novel solutions or to problematize commonly accepted views on ethics, the nature of reality, science, etc. Philosophy encourages disciplined free-form thought. Most students have issue with getting to the "why" behind a treatise or thought experiment. I want to help student to grasp the overall idea of a philosophical treatise or novel.

As a tutor, my role is to reinforce a love of learning by helping online students with questions beyond the scope of the traditional school work hours. My qualifications for tutoring stems from my ability to quickly souse out the "why" behind a concept and see its overall implications. I informally gained experience in tutoring while working toward my Bachelor's degree. I helped with proofreading essays, providing helpful suggestions on how a piece of writing can be improved. Professionally, I worked as an online English and Social Studies. I had to work quickly in a fast-paced online environment, maintaining accuracy in the information I presented to students. I helped students from 8th graders to adult learners working on their Master’s degree in the basics of English literature, essay writing, editing, social studies and world history.

I have a wide range of interests in different subjects, both within philosophy and English and elsewhere. Within philosophy, areas of interest to me are morality and ethics, epistemology, philosophy of science and philosophy of mind. Within English and Literature, areas of interest to me are American literature, Russian literature, poetry, proofreading and essay writing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Philosophy

I have a B.A. in philosophy from University of Florida. My favorite area of philosophy to study is philosophy of mind, language, epistemology and religion. This is my comfort zone tutoring-wise.
