About Deborah

I am certified in 26 subjects, an experienced tutor, and my response time is within 6 hours. I will never charge you more than what we agree to. No shows or cancellations after 24 hours will be charged $15. Also, I will tutor up to three people for $50 or two for $36.

I worked as a volunteer tutor with Americorps for the Alachua County School board and was later hired on as a substitute teacher. I taught from head-start through junior high school. I also worked as an F-Cat tutor and prepared elementary school students for this test. I also worked as an English tutor for many years to international college students and prepared them for the TOEFL.

I love tutoring because I can work individually with each student and can give them my undivided attention. I also find that during tutoring students find it easier to ask questions and are more willing to learn when they feel they have adequate help. Also, I love that during tutoring I gain a better understanding of how students think and process what they are being taught and are expected to learn.

An outstanding English tutor is not only one who knows the English language well but also someone who is able to effectively teach it to others.
I love tutoring and working with students of all ages and backgrounds. I worked with students from pre-k through college. I also worked as an English tutor for over 12 years to international college students and prepared them for the TOEFL. I specialize in creative writing and English and basic math.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I worked as a tutor and substitute teacher in elementary schools for at least two years. I have experience working with students from head-start to junior high school teaching and tutoring. I prepared elementary students for the F-Cat, a required standardized test at that time in Florida and assisted them with homework help as well. I have a flexible schedule and have worked with students with special needs. I look forward to hearing you.

Anatomy

Received high marks B+ in anatomy in College and passed WyzAnt one time proficiency exam.

Bible Studies

I went to two Christian based Universities and took many classes in Religious studies at Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida and Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. I grew up going to church and I am very familiar with anything related to Biblical studies. I look forward to hearing for you. This topic is a passion for me and I am eager to tutor in this subject. I have completed in depth studies in world and comparative religion and can provide any additional information to show my qualifications in this subject.

Composition (Music)

I have been in music all my life, I learned recorder in grade school and clarinet and saxophone in junior high and high school. I have taken music theory from elementary school throughout college. I can tutor using a music scale, chords and composition. I was in the marching band and concert band for six year in junior high and high school. I was able to write solos and music composition for some solos and music pieces I was required to play. Please contact me for any additional information you require. I look forward to hearing from you, thank you.

I worked as a tutor and substitute teacher in elementary schools for at least two years. I have experience working with students from head-start to junior high school teaching and tutoring. ESL/ESOL

I love tutoring and working with students of all ages and backgrounds. I worked as an English tutor for many years (12 years+) to international college students and prepared them for the Toefl.

Handwriting

I have taught education and writing from head-start to junior high school. Handwriting is a necessary part of education, without this it would be very difficult for students and teachers to communicate and instructors would not be able to evaluate most of their students' assignments. I tutored students in writing by having them trace dotted outlines of letters and words they needed to learn. I began with upper and lower case alphabets, numbers, two, three and four letter words and their names. As students progressed I just had them write without using the dotted lines. I always encouraged them.

Psychology

I worked as a tutor and substitute teacher in elementary schools for at least two years. I have experience working with students from head-start to junior high school teaching and tutoring. I prepared elementary students for the F-Cat, a required standardized test at that time in Florida and assisted them with homework help as well. Spelling

I worked as a teacher as well as a volunteer and paid tutor within the Alachua County School Board administration. This required a strong knowledge of the subjects I taught and tutored in, such as: english, history, math, reading, science and writing. In all of these subjects I used my knowledge of the English language which required mastery of communication skills, reading comprehension, spelling and writing. I also tutored international students in English for over 12 years and helped to prepare some of them for the TOEFL which required an in depth mastery of communication skills, reading, writing and spelling.
