About LEGER

I graduated with a Masters of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction from Nova Southeastern University (Davie, FL). I earned my Bachelor of Science in Humanities with a concentration on Education from Dominican College of Blauvelt (Orangetown, NY). I graduated with dual certification in general and special education. Since graduation, I have taught in the state of New York for 3 years, and then relocated to Georgia where I have been teaching for the past 7 years. For 5 of those 7 years, I have had the privilege to teach in self-contained and interrelated classrooms. My primary language is French. Though I am certified to teach all subjects, I have decided to focus on teaching French, as I realized that many students can benefit from the support of a native French speaker who is not only fluent in speaking French, but is fluent academically and can explain the grammar, and vocabulary of the language. My students should feel free to contact me with any pertinent questions that may arise with regards to any of the subjects I tutor.

I currently hold certification in the following areas: French (grades K-12); Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies (K-8 for general education & K-12 for special education). I am not new to tutoring. I have provided tutoring services to a well-known tutoring company for students from grades K-8 in math and reading. I also provided tutoring services to young and adult alike in French at all levels (French 1, 2, 3, & 4). In addition, I have helped students prepare for assessments in French. My background as both a special education teacher and French instructor in grades K-12 equips me with the knowledge and the patience to get the job done. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, spending time with my family, traveling, and playing basketball with my son.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am a certified K-12 special education teacher. I have 15 years of experience working with ADD/ADHD students. I have developed and implemented strategies that geared toward curtailing distractibility, inattentiveness, impulsivity and disorganization in my classrooms.

Aspergers

I am a certified K-12 special education teacher. For 3 years, I worked for a school district in Georgia where one of my students was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome. I have created and implemented schedules to allow familiarization. The importance of the schedules is that students with Aspergers tend to have a hard time accepting sudden changes.

Autism

I am a certified K-12 special education teacher. For 6 years, I worked as a one-on-one teacher assistant in New York State with an 8 year old child with Autism. From 2011-2014, I worked as a self-contained special education teacher where 3 out of 8 students on my caseload that I was responsible to provide direct instruction to, were students with Autism.

Handwriting

I currently teach grades K-8. I also possess past experience in working with students with disabilities, for instance (Cerebral Palsy), that always require some type of assistance with hand writing. It's also a standard that all K-5 certified teachers have to know how to meet. I trust that my experience and my certification in that area qualify me to tutor in this area.

Special Needs

I am a certified special education teacher in all areas of the curriculum (Math, Reading, Science, & social studies for grades K-12). I worked from 2000-2014 both as a one-on-one teacher assistant and a classroom teacher with students that had a variety of cognitive and physical disabilities (Aspergers, Autism, ADD/ADHD, OHI & SLD, Cerebral Palsy, etc.). My last three years as a special education teacher were in a self-contained classroom with students that had been diagnosed with the aforementioned disabilities. I strongly believe that my credentials, my experience, and my passion for teaching and thriving to meet each learner's needs, make me a strong candidate for this position.
