My name is Laura, and I graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Elementary Education. I also have two Montessori Degrees. Montessori has been in my family since 1968! My twin and I have opened two Montessori Schools in Dade and Broward county. I have been teaching and tutoring for over 35 years! This is my passion, to tutor and make a difference in a child's life!
My specialty is tutoring children from kindergarten to the fifth grade. I tutor in reading, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, study skills, math, early science and basic geography skills. I also tutor with homework assignments and test prep. My goals for each session is to keep my students organized, responsible, on target and challenged. We have fun, but we are learning all the time. I believe in excellent strategies to motivate my tutees. The Montessori Method has certainly trained me to be prepared with hands on materials and fun activities to motivate and advance the child to the next level.
I hold myself to an excellent standard. For that reason, I often ask for some feedback, and will never bill a lesson in which the parent (or child) is not completely satisfied with my tutoring. I am always on time for a session. While I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy, I will offer make up sessions.
I am a high-energy person with excellent communication and organizational skills and goals. I understand the drive, tenacity and determination it takes to be successful tutor, and I offer myself as a competent and viable candidate. As always, I will provide my tutees with a reasonable and reliable tutor in a most professional manner.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping your child achieve excellent success this school year! From the moment my wife and I met Laura, we knew we were dealing with a very experienced teaching professional. She impressed us with her broad set of teaching lessons that were designed for helping our son improve his reading skills. We also like her "Montessori" approach to teaching. My son's first lesson was definitely worth the investment.
- The lessons are really paying off. I received an email from my son's Teacher at school noting my son's improved reading and comprehension.
- My son is now reading whole books by myself. He is not proficient yet, but the progress is outstanding and I am very grateful we found Miss Laura as a teacher. If she still had her school, my son would be going there!
Thank you Michael and Ethel! That is so very thoughtful and such kind words. It is a joy to watch Gabriel read, learn and grow throughout his lessons. He has a lot of patience and wants to learn!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In our Montessori classroom, I had my students make an American History Timeline from 1780 to 2008, when the school was sold. We would all get together and research what happened in each era, the students had reports and presentations about the different wars that went on from the beginning of 1780, also the presidents, inventions, expeditions, states and historical events that took place in chronological order, up to 2008. A yearly project that the children and my self accomplished and took home!
I have a BS. in Elementary Education from Florida State University and have two Montessori Degrees. My twin sister and I have opened two Montessori Schools ( K through fifth ), in Dade and Broward County. For 35 years, I have tutored and taught in the elementary classroom and feel very qualified.
I graduated from Florida State University with a BS. in elementary education. I also have two Montessori degrees in pre-school and early elementary. I have tutored children from the ages of 2 1/2 to 10 years old. My twin and I have opened two Montessori Schools in dade and Broward County and have tutored and taught in the schools for over 35 years. I have tutored German, Spanish, Japanese, Russian and Italian children English as a Second Language. By the age of four, the children were speaking English as their vocabulary expanded on a daily basis. Montessori is international, so we had children speaking not a word of English, but after a few months, many children began to speak the English language. I thank the Montessori method and the hands-on materials.
I have a BS. in elementary education from FSU. I also have two Montessori degrees. My twin sister and I have opened two Montessori schools in Dade and Broward County for ages are from 2 1/2 to 10 years old. I have been teaching and tutoring for over 35 years.
In Montessori, we have children enroll in our schools from several different continents: South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. When the children enrolled, they did not speak English at all. I have taught children how to speak English at a very young age, as young as two-and-a-half years old. In a month, the child learns many vocabulary words in English, and by four months the child is speaking in sentences. It is amazing to see how quickly the child absorbs the English language.
Staying fit has always been a huge part of my life! I taught first through fourth grade PE. for 20 years in my Montessori Schools in Dade and Broward county. Personally, I trained for mini triathlons in the 80's and 90's, and continue to maintain my workouts in the gym, weight train, bike, ski, rollerblade, run and walk daily. I love sports! Eating healthy and staying in impeccable shape is who I am.
Beginning from Pre School to the fifth grade, I have had the pleasure to teach Geography at several different levels. Using the Geography materials in Montessori, I have taught the children the 7 different continents, countries, capitals, oceans, and land and water forms.
By using the Geography, Puzzle Maps, this helps the child remember the country, shape, location, flag and color to place properly back in the correct place. As a follow up, the child is given a map, lets say of the United States, and required to color in the appropriate states they have learned that day, as well as, the color of the flag. By having Hands-On Montessori materials, the child is learning and having fun at the same time!
I graduated from FSU with a bachelors in Elementary Education. Opened two Montessori Schools in Dade and Broward counties, tutored and taught in both schools from the ages 2 1/2 years to 10 years for over 35 years! Using the language boxes, specifically, the " Parts of Speech" box and the symbols relating to nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, preposition, conjunction...etc. is an excellent way for your child to become familiar with grammar and have fun at the same time!
I graduated from FSU with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I am also certified in Montessori. I have opened, tutored, and taught in Montessori for over 35 years! Our schools were located both in Dade and Broward County.
In the Montessori classroom, I begin to teach cursive handwriting at the age of four. The three year old, traces the sandpaper letters, while the four year old, traces the letters and then begins to write on a special paper I provide for the child. There is a flow to the child's hand... like painting with a paintbrush !
The child uses his/her pincer grasp. Then, after the child has mastered the cursive handwriting, I teach the child print. The child will compare the both, and an "explosion" in handwriting has taken place!
I have a BS. In Elementary Education and two Montessori degrees. I have opened , taught and tutored in my Montessori Schools for over 35 years! Beginning at the age of two years, in the Montessori classroom, the alphabet sounds are taught and gradually, through hands on apparatus and using fun activities, the child begins to master the phonics in the Language area in Montessori. The Montessori Method is truly an excellent way to teach phonics!

I tutor spelling at an early age, beginning at 3 years old. Knowing all the alphabet sounds, using the sandpaper letters, the language materials in Montessori and fun activities, is an excellent way to teach the child spelling. Then later on, as the child becomes 5 or 6 years, it is time for

In Montessori we begin vocabulary skills at an early age! Knowing the alphabet sounds, phonics, reading and using all the apparatus in the language area, will build a strong , vocabulary background for the child. Later on, the child will work on synonyms, antonyms and memorization skills for vocabulary.
