Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Cooking

I have been cooking since I was about eight years old. I wrote and published a cookbook several years ago. I am experienced in cooking all types of foods particularly Caribbean foods. Some the dishes I enjoy cooking include seasoned rice, baked plantains, stewed fish, pancakes, Antigua pepper pot, Antigua sous, turn corn, salt fish cakes, and much more.

Elementary (K-6th)

I was a former Teacher and Tutor for grades one and two in Language Arts and Mathematics.
The Language Arts topics covered included word recognition, spelling, reading for comprehension and writing. The areas of Mathematics tutored included counting, mixed operations, name of numbers, money, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time, and geometry.

I will work hard to make every student a success.

Elementary Math

I am a multicultural educational professional. I taught several elementary subjects including mathematics for several years in the Caribbean. Here in the United States I tutored mathematics one-on-one. The areas focused on include, introduction to numbers, multiplications, additions, subtractions, divisions, fractions, decimals, graphs, simple Geometry, elementary Algebra, percentages, volumes, areas, lengths, simple word problems, and averages.

GED

I am qualified to teach GED classes because I have been an educator for many years, as a Teacher, Professor and Tutor. I have the abilities to tutor Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing.

Some of the Math topics I taught include whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percent, and basic Algebra and Geometry. Additionally, I have tutored Social Studies topics, such as analyzing and applying Social Studies concepts and materials. With regarding to Reading and Writing I have taught and will focus on comprehension, grammar, punctuation, meaning of words and sentence building.

I will assign homework, have discussions for comprehension purposes, give mini tests and conduct short lectures. Finally, I will include any material that will make the student a success.

Grammar

As a grammar tutor I will encourage students to read daily because this is an excellent way to learn grammar. Additionally, I will introduce sentence construction and parts of a sentence, such as the sentence subject and the sentence predicate. Also, I will focus on capitalization, punctuation, nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, paragraphs and editing.

Vocabulary

I am a multicultural educational professional. I taught several elementary subjects including vocabulary in the Caribbean for several years. Additionally, I was a vocabulary Tutor here in the United States. Vocabulary is very important in all areas of education, so expansion of ones vocabulary is important. This will be done by the introduction of a new word and its meaning weekly through, spelling, reading, writing and discussions. Students will be encouraged to use new words in their daily life and form written sentences with the words. Additionally, action words, antonyms, alliteration, homonyms, correct spelling of words will be introduced as well.
