Hello, My name is Stephen. I'm currently a second year student at Valencia Community College majoring in graphic design and education. My favorite subjects are Science, English and Public Speaking. I have had a lot of opportunities to educate myself in these academic studies and have come to love both learning and teaching each one. I was a member of the Debate team in high school and for the last 2 years was the President of the team. Being able to participate in this team has taught me a lot about speech giving and public speaking even taking me to compete in the Harvard National Debate Tournament 2 years in a row. The experience has also shown me an affinity for teaching and tutoring.
I was the team leader of the Oral interpretation and Speech delivery segment of the team as well as head speech writer and editor. In my Junior and Senior years in high school I also joined the national science honor society, the architecture club, and took Advanced Placement Marine Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Literature, and Poetry. I love teaching and sharing my passions with other people sometimes to the point of getting overly excited about what I love. Overall, nothing makes me happier than seeing a smile on someones face when they finally understand something they struggled with and being a part of that would be an honor. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
