About Amy-Terese

I am a professional Tutor/Coach providing private individual or group Tutoring, Coaching and Training Services to Adult Learners. I enjoy the work I do a great deal; the services which I provide are my passions and it shows...both in the process and the results. (Please read my "Student Feedback" to better assess the effectiveness of my methods.)

As a tutor, I am gifted to be able to spark the student's interest, hold their attention and maintain their focus by presenting the material in a variety of creative and innovative methods. I am a strong proponent of positive feedback and encouragement... building the student's self-esteem and confidence while building skill and proficiency in the subject area. I work to assess and address deficiencies resulting from earlier disconnects in learning, progressing the student at his/her own pace, while simultaneously challenging them to move forward to new vistas. Regular feedback and skill assessment is provided, as well as homework assignments (in most cases) to further hone skills and continue learning through consistent practice.

As a life coach, I am blessed to be able to provide the compassion, patience, wisdom, encouragement and accountability needed to motivate my clients to confidently achieve their desired next level - personally or professionally - or to move past fear, procrastination, self-sabotage, lack of self-esteem, and disorganization into a desired new direction in life.

Elyse, we are both well aware that you have written this due to my being unable (despite your insistent pleas) to add your sister back into my schedule due to the lack of an available time-slot. I pride myself on being a true professional and an exemplary tutor/coach...and my record reflects that, as I have been providing tutoring and coaching services for the past 5 years and yours is the first and only negative feedback I've received. Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear you found a new tutor...Leah is a delight and I do hope she can get the help she needs to successfully pass her test. Blessings!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

The ACT Test's English section is a very grammar-intensive test, and grammar rules and practices are my specialties! I am able to proficiently teach both the rules and the strategies needed to successfully locate errors and select correct revisions quickly and easily.

ACT Reading

The ACT Test Reading section can be challenging for many students with its lengthy passages and seemingly confusing questions. Nonetheless, I am able to teach how: (1)to locate "clues" in both the questions and the reading; (2)to skim/scan passages effectively in lieu of trying to read full passages unnecessarily; (3)to better comprehend what is read; and (4)to answer questions in a "priority" order, resulting in speedier, easier, and more strategic processing, and much higher scores!

Bible Studies

I believe that I am qualified in this area as I have been a Bible scholar my entire life, beginning with eight years of parochial school education. Since that time, I have had a true passion for the Word of God and have had a life long experience of reading the Bible, receiving personal revelation of its interpretation, receiving teaching (through preaching, ministerial teaching and seminary classes), and helping others understand and apply its lessons in their own daily lives. I have both participated in and conducted one-on-one and group Bible studies and, although I am not an ordained minister, I have regularly been invited to preach or deliver scripture-based messages on numerous occasions in churches and social functions because of my anointing in this area.

Business

Whether in theory (in a classroom) or in the real world situations (as a business owner), Business Management/ Operations can be challenging. I am confident that I will be able to capably assist you in honing your skills in either setting as I am well experienced both academically (master's degree major in administration/ management) and practically (as both an entrepreneur and a small business coach/consultant).

English

The English language is assuredly one of the most complex languages to learn and apply...even for native speakers!
From its extensive grammar rules to its multiple definition vocabulary words to its complex spellings to its illogical pronunciations to its strange idioms and various "exceptions to the rules"...it seems amazing that anyone can learn English, right? Well, despite all of that, you can successfully learn, improve and even master English with my services! I utilize my own expertise in all aspects of English (conversation, public speaking, grammar, reading comprehension, writing) in a tutoring method that is customized to your needs, effective, engaging, practical and relatively painless! Contact me today to begin your journey towards English language mastery!

ESL/ESOL

The only thing I love more than the English language is helping students learn to love it (and master it) as well! English is a crazy language - one word can have multiple meanings, spellings and pronunciations...and forget about slang and idioms - it can all seem rather confusing! Thankfully, I am gifted to make learning English a simple, progressive and FUN process. My methods will vary based on the skill level of the student, but whether just starting to learn vocabulary or needing to speak more professionally, each student moves at their own pace, steadily building proficiency and confidence. I incorporate "real world" activities and homework based upon the student's interests and goals...and insist upon "practice, practice, practice"! I assure you, not only will you enjoy our sessions...you will be speaking English with confidence in no time!

Grammar

GRAMMAR is basically the "set of rules" governing how the English Language is used, verbally or in writing. Because there are quite a number of these "rules", English grammar can be tricky for both native and non-native speakers alike.
I specialize in all aspects of the English Language, and I am able to help you successfully learn, understand and apply these grammar rules appropriately. My methods are fun, fast and pain-free!

Public Speaking

Public Speaking is one of my passions! While some studies have shown that fear of public speaking ranks highly among our greatest fears, it is one of the most importantly valued skills that an individual can possess...it is, therefore, one of my favorite tutoring subjects!
I am an independent professional communicator, experienced as a speaker, presenter, host/MC and moderator. (One of my most cherished achievements was being selected as Commencement Speaker for Kaiser Career College.) I can assist students in overcoming stage fright; gaining confidence; developing a more powerful presence; honing their speaking skills - and in creating effective speeches/presentations that inspire, inform, entertain or positively influence their audience. Contact me today to begin learning how to better "Deliver Your Message"! (And have fun doing it!)

Reading

Reading Comprehension is very often indicated as a "weaker area" for many students. There are several factors about reading comprehension that add to its complexity: vocabulary and word choice, sentence structure, sentence and paragraph length, and the student's ability to "decode" and understand concepts and make relevant connections. In my services, I address each of these factors in a coherent instruction, involving the student in an "active" process of reading in order to develop fundamental strategic comprehension abilities. Best of all, my methods are engaging and motivational!

SAT Reading

The SAT Test Critical Reading and Writing sections are two of my specialization areas. My knowledge and proficiency with the test itself was proven in late 2010 when I personally took the SAT Exam at Huntington Learning Center and scored 800 (with no omissions) in both of these areas. I have tutored these subjects for several years and over that time, have developed my own methodologies for instruction that have proven time and time again to be strategy based, easily understood/applied and highly effective. My personal style is engaging, motivating and results focused. Contact me today as your "best choice" for SAT Test Prep!

Writing

I have a true penchant for writing and a gift for helping others improve their writing skills! I am not only a published author of two non-fiction books and an extensive collection of poetry, but I have also been a by-line writer for various newspapers, newsletters and professional journals. I have served as an editor and proof-reader, and I specialize in writing skill improvement for pre-college and pre-employment test preparation.
Contact me today to improve your writing skills, succeed in your goals and develop your own love of writing!
