Birmingham Institute of Art And Design (Art and Design)
I am an English designer and mother of two children with a B. A. honours degree specializing in printed textile design from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in the UK. I have a professional background in marketing and sales. I would like to share my enthusiasm for the world of fine and applied arts with young students ranging in age between 8 and 18. Personalized to the needs, ability and pace of every student, we will explore the fundamentals of drawing such as directional and gestural lines, continuous and contour drawing from observational, figurative and conventional techniques. We will also study shapes in silhouettes, the human face and figure and the use of patterns to create natural forms in landscapes and still life. Utilizing this knowledge, we will develop an individual style for sketches and finished projects. We will draw from research to develop illustrations. Also, explore optical and kinetic art and work with different mediums such as pastel, pen and ink and charcoal to create varying atmospheres. Each project will involve the study of famous artists in history to complement the student's original ideas. We will learn compositional balance, perspective and the qualities of tone and color, both their physical elements and their symbolism. We will combine color relationships and intensities with various painting techniques such as impressionism and pointillism and define scales through monochromatic and polychromatic collections. We will study light and shade. Students will be able to use these skills in textile, ceramic and photography projects and apply patterns, textures and decorative art forms to their own unique interests. This will include rendering reflections, distorted and metallic finishes. We will study the concept of space and overlapping images with external image sources in graphic design. The student will gain a broader understanding of ratio, proportion and movement in the human figure and inanimate objects. We will explore art and design media, watercolor, gouache, acrylic. oils and the use of brushwork. Computer graphics, typography and traditional printing as well a textile arts such as batik and tie dye will enhance the student's visual and technical capabilities.
Lessons can be given at my home or the student's home within the Treasure Coast of Florida during after school hours to be arranged and all supplies will be provided. I am excited to begin this creative journey with each student that will nourish a lifelong passion for the visual arts. I am an English designer and mother of two children with a B. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
