About Amanda

I have always held a love for learning, and an even greater love for helping other people gain knowledge. While I believe that everyone has great potential, I also know that many people need help in unlocking that potential. I seek to help ask many people as possible discover the possibilities that come with a proper education, and an understanding of the material that they have been given.

As a college student, my schedule can vary from term to term, but this means that I am left with quite a bit of flexibility, especially during the afternoon hours, weekends, summer months, and school vacations. I have reliable transportation and can get to your chosen place of meeting with relative ease, but I do prefer to meet in public locations. I am partially bilingual, speaking, reading and writing fluently in English, and have a basic ability of speaking, read, and writing Spanish.

While my schedule is fairly flexible, please let me know at least 2 hours ahead of time if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. If you are not entirely happy with the quality of tutoring provided, you will not have to pay for the cost of the lesson. Feedback is always welcome and encouraged, as I like to know how I could improve in the future.

My tutoring style is variable, and can change depending upon which age group and subject I am teaching. For example, when I am assisting a younger student, I may use more "practical" or hands-on methods, such as drawing pictures, creating models, acting out a scene for reading comprehension, or use of counting/dividing aids to help in grasping concepts in math such as multiplication, division, or fractions. For older age groups, I tend to use less hands-on methods, such as idea/concept maps, or creation of rhymes or jingles to help with learning or recalling materials.

I have taken several college level and AP courses in psychology, ethics, philosophy, and human growth and development. (PHI2010, PHI2604). My native language is English. I have taken college courses that require advanced reading, writing, and speaking in the English language. (ENC1101, ENC1102). I have taken courses through high school and college which cover the basics and more advanced portions of various elementary sciences, including but not limited to biology, basic health and science/anatomy, chemistry, physical science, and earth sciences. I am also Serv Safe Certified and have taken 3 years worth of cooking lessons.

Transcripts are available upon request.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
