Florida International University, Miami, FL (English)
Hello, and thank you for taking interest in me being a potential tutor! My name is Milton, and I offer tutoring services that will help students excel in anything related to language arts.
Whether it be reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, proofreading, or taking the SAT or ACT, I will do my very best to ensure that not only will you or your child meet the expectations asked of them, but exceed them.
I am currently a high school teacher for 10th grade language arts students, so my knowledge of reading, writing, and vocabulary are extensive. My experience includes teaching a class that focuses on improving students' reading and writing levels, as well as assisting students with various homework and study needs.
I am a graduate of Florida International University, majoring in English and minoring in education, earning my Bachelor's degree December of 2011.
My method of tutoring is to take it in the approach to critical pedagogy. Critical pedagogy, while not easy to define, is considered by Henry Giroux as "an "educational movement, guided by passion and principle, to help students develop consciousness of freedom, recognize authoritarian tendencies, and connect knowledge to power and the ability to take constructive action." In other words, I am moved by what a student believes is their best way of learning, and I attempt to teach in a manner that is best suited for them. Also, it doesn't hurt to make learning both fun and engaging.
I hope you consider me for your future tutoring needs. Until then! Hello, and thank you for taking interest in me being a potential tutor! My name is Milton, and I offer tutoring services that will help students excel in anything related to language arts.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am able to assist students with spelling, phonetics, and practicing difficult words.
I can teach students new words and how to use them in context, expansion of vocabulary and relating new words to everyday life.
