About Stephen

Hi,

I'm Steve. I have 20 years experience teaching writing, math, science, engineering, chemistry, physics, and similar areas. I have taught students from middle school up to graduate school. In addition to these areas I have keen interests in music, photography, agriculture, and cooking. I pride myself in the ability to explain difficult concepts in ways that most students can understand.

Best Regards,
Steve

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I've taught chemistry, chemical engineering, engineering mathematics (making use of Algebra 2), and related subjects. I use that knowledge on a daily basis in my current professional life --- writing assessment problems for similar courses.

Chemistry

I have a BS in chemistry, including study in organic chemistry, natural products chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry. I have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, including 20 hours of graduate study in macromolecular, biochemical, and organic chemistry. I currently administer organic chemistry laboratories in the summers for a local college. My interests include stereochemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, and prion folding.

Organic Chemistry

I have a BS in chemistry, including two semesters of study in organic chemistry.

I have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, including 20 hours of graduate study in macromolecular, biochemistry, and organic chemistry.

Prealgebra

I enjoy exploring simple problems demonstrating the importance of the rules of prealgebra with enthusiastic learners and with learners that just need a review. I hope to introduce students to topics in applied prealgebra - like science (my chief experience) and into ideas in more advanced mathematics.
