About Stacy

I have been in the education field most of my young adult and adult life. From my own personal experiences growing, with myself and my friends, I discovered at a very young age my ability to rapidly understand and transform information for people. This translates well to not only subject matter, but also to the students that I have worked with over the past 28 years. I graduated Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science in Specific Learning Disabilities and have some graduate level coursework in brain-based education, gifted learning and many newer techniques in education. I worked in a local faith based elementary school a preschool teacher, an elementary school teacher, assessment coordinator, curriculum specialist, student services coordinator and various other needed positions within the school. After 13 years, I left my school to create my own educational consulting company and worked to bridge the gap between the students, student,s needs, parents as well as professionals. As an educational consultant for the past 9 years, I have had the pleasure of homeschooling students, assisting with issues at schools, help parents find the best educational path for their children and have taught many students who are now extremely successful. I am passionate about helping students turn a frustration or a negative experience into a neutral or positive experience.

Unfortunately, I was going through a personally rough time with a personal autoimmune condition that effects my energy levels. As of the past few months, I am stronger and would like be to expand my current student base. I am very comfortable teaching any level math using a multitude of methodologies. I can teach young children, but have the most experience with Pre-Algebra, Algebras I and II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, College Algebra and SAT/ACT Prep. I have taught several people to pass the GED exam. I have extensive experience with phonics, reading decoding/encoding, comprehension and writing skills. I have assisted many students with college level English and essay based courses. I have taught a multitude of subjects including the social sciences, physical sciences and history subject matter. My students' successes make my love and passion for helping to facilitate learning that much more fulfilling!

All math in elementary, middle and high school. I'm not strong in Calculus. I'm very fluent in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and SAT/ACT Prep.

When I was eleven years old, I personally struggled with autoimmune disease and had to deal with teachers who didn't understand. I have worked with students with varying exceptionalities my whole life from the gifted to various different learning differences. It's my passion!

If you are looking for guidance or know exactly what you need help with, please feel free to contact me so that together we can find the best solution for your needs. Everyone deserves the chance to learn, we just need to understand how to start the fire to learn more. Talk soon.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

The first part of me career I work with math students from K-8 as a teacher, teacher trainer and curriculum coordinator. Also, I worked with Stanford University's EPGY (a strong program for gifted youth) to set up a pilot school-wide program. I was trained twice at Stanford and used the program with consistency while teaching. When I started tutoring full time, I started with mostly 6-8 grade students and now, 10 years later mostly teach Algebra1 & 2, Geometry and Precalculous.

I have learned a multi-modal approach to math favoring using the process that best fits the student. I have taken courses in Everyday Math, Touch Math, EPGY Stanford Math, SAT/ACT math, Singapore Math and many other process to help students wrap their minds around the subject with fluency.

Special Needs

I spent most of my teaching experience including my practicum in learning disabled classes in elementary and middle school. Also, I took add on course and taught/lead 3 years of a gifted programs in elementary school. I have most of my experience helping kids with all subject using whatever methods works best. In ESE (Exceptional Student Education), I have take many courses in brain-based learning and continue to search for a multitude of ways to helps students understand and retain the material from year to year.
