Piedmont College (Early Childhood)
Piedmont College (Master's)
Hi! My name is Suzanne and I hold a Master of Arts degree and Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont College. I hold a valid Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate in grades PK-6 and am ESOL endorsed. I am a 2nd grade teacher. I enjoy working with children and helping them reach for their dreams through their education. I believe every child should be valued and treated with respect. An education should empower a child and help him or her make a positive contribution to our world. I believe every child learns differently and we should immerse young children in the enjoyment of discovery-style learning that builds a foundation of good work habits.
I have been teaching for 10 years. Part of my teaching career was in North Georgia. I taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades while in Georgia. I was the Teacher Leader for my grade levels and served on the School Council. The second part of my career thus far has been in Central Florida. After moving to Florida, I began teaching 1st grade for three years. After my third year in 1st grade, parents of my students’ asked me to loop with my class and teach them for another year in 2nd grade. I was honored and I have been teaching in 2nd grade for the past two years. I have been the Teacher Leader for the past 4 years, served as a Reading Committee Team member, and am serving on the School Based Leadership Team.
My tutoring experience has been in grades pre-kindergarten through second. After meeting and talking with the child being tutored, I work to create a tutoring environment conducive to that child's needs and styles of learning. I work to create a bond with that child through positive reinforcement and praise so that the child feels success at every level. I begin the tutoring sessions by gaining knowledge of where the child is in their education and then we build on that knowledge as we move forward in our learning adventure. Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
