About Franjo

Bio

I am currently working on a Ph.D. in Genetics and Genomics at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine and Genetics Institute. Long story short: I’m an aspiring scientist. Ever since I was a kid, I have had an unquenchable thirst for science and learning. My passion is an intersection of genetics, statistics, psychology, and anthropology. I am curious about how human neurobiology, together with the social environment, shapes behaviors.

I also enjoy learning about the biomolecular mechanisms triggering pathologies and molecular biology that drives disorders. I am particularly interested in the transient effects causing lasting pathologies, which is why I enjoy working on problems concerning RNA biology. However, I also enjoy working with underappreciated mutations in the human genome, including copy number variation and tandem repeat variation.

Besides science, I also enjoy pondering issues of social relevance – most often pertaining to religion and scientific literacy. I consider myself to be a bookworm. In my free time, I tutor high-school and college students and proof-read their assignments. I also dabble in cosmetic formulation.

I have over 8 years of experience including research-based statistics and R use, as well as undergraduate- and graduate-level coursework involving statistics and R. I have taken multiple PhD-level statistics courses, including the theory of statistics.

I hold undergraduate degrees in integrative biology and biological anthropology. I am currently a Ph.D. student in the genetics & genomics program focusing on statistical genetics of psychiatric disorders and big data approaches to biomedical sciences.

Biostatistics,

Biostatistics

I've completed graduate-level courses in (bio)statistics, including big data for biologists, genomics and bioinformatics, regression analysis, theoretical statistics, and biostatistical methods. My research focuses on genomic aspects of biostatistical approaches, particularly genome-wide associations, sequence analysis, and quantitative trait analysis. Additionally, I have experience in biology-oriented data science and computational approaches - including machine learning and regression analyses.

She took my description of what my daughter was looking for, and created a syllabus to match and provide her great tips and resources. Her lesson was spot on and the right mix of teaching fundamentals and practical applications.

Good Thought Process

Great explanations and patience. Very professional and nice. He was able to explain concepts where I had gaps in my knowledge and help me apply it

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

He taught me a lot of coding stuff that I never would’ve figured out just by reading things on my own. We worked on bioinformatics and genomics work from datasets. He is experienced and such an asset! Thank you again!

Excellent Tutor

Franjo is very knowledgeable in statistics. Excellent at reading the problem thoroughly and explaining why we use the formula versus just using formulas. Understanding the why makes statistics much easier to understand and apply.
